And while Moriarty is the best in his criminal field, his field is full of corrupt, worthless criminals. Which means that Moriarty is the worst in being good, which makes him an idiot. He’s smart in crime, but not in doing what’s right. Despite popular opinion, only Good triumphs over Evil in the end. If Evil is still on top, that means it’s not the end. It’ll only be the end when Good comes ahead and breaks Evil’s back. Then Evil, and Moriarty, will never be on top again. They will be permanently placed on the bottom of the Reichenbach Fall.

@samvisser94087 жыл бұрын
shogun harlem To be fair, I don't personally think Moriarty in this interpretation is a typical evil genius. Evil, yes, genius, definitely, but not typical; your typical evil genius' sole motivation is usually to show the world how brilliant they are, etc, etc In this series, Moriarty seems almost bored, like his genius is a curse to him and it's sucked all the fun out of life. Sherlock is the playmate who provides him with a momentary distraction, until he gets bored again. Moriarty seems depressed. In short, his motivation, contrary to the archetypal evil genius, is simply boredom.

And then when Moriarty asks Sherlock about the "final problem" Sherlock is clueless. "I did tell you, but did you listeeen?". After what he said it's obvious that he'd be after Sherlock's pressure points (his friends)... he even told him about the fall. Wow Moriarty had it all planned in advance. I wouldn't be surprised if he planned his death and beyond.

I'm the one who think the relationship between Sherlock and Moriarty is like this between Batman and the Joker ? :D
@NavyFiceRoid4210 жыл бұрын
Omg I'm just gonna dive into this because I completely agree and I'm obsessed with both. The Joker, obviously, is like Moriarty. They both want to see Batman/Sherlock 'crack'. In the Dark Knight, Batman's rule was that he wouldn't ever purposely kill someone. Batman had good morals that he stood for. The Joker tried to get Batman to break his rule and make him realize morals were a joke. That's what the Joker found pleasure in, because Batman seemed incorruptible unlike all the people the Joker had successfully shown were hypocrites morally. The Joker tried to crack Batman by having Batman unknowingly responsible for killing Rachel (Batman's love and pressure point) and also many times giving Batman a clear way to kill him. The Joker thought the combined pain of guilt for in a way killing Rachel and also not killing the Joker (who lived went on to cause death and destruction) could make Batman crack his morals. Alright. Now, this relates incredibly to Sherlock and Moriarty because Moriarty finds pleasure in trying to break Sherlock's unemotional veneer and make him realize he's a regular person and not a sociopath. Omgomg i could talk for hours about this. Anyway, Moriarty tries to show Sherlock is a regular person and not a sociopath like him by making Sherlock emotional. In the dialogue between them, Moriarty says "I will burn the heart out of you." And then Sherlock says "I've been reliably informed I don't have one." I think. But Moriarty retaliates and replies, "But we both know that's not quite true." Moriarty knows that Sherlock has a heart, has feelings, and therefore isn't an apathetic sociopath. But Sherlock doesn't except this and wants to be a proper sociopath. Why? Because Sherlock is incredibly insecure. Yeah. That arrogance isn't from overconfidence, but a cover for his low self-esteem. Sherlock feels that being an ordinary person is a bad thing. His brother often talks about regular people with disdain for being so ordinary. And what's more ordinary than feelings, right? So Sherlock tries to be a sociopath and conceal those normal ordinary feelings because god forbid someone finds out he's not actually an amazing sociopath. Moriarty knows this. He says on the rooftop "i am you" to Sherlock (as in, we are both sociopaths) and proceeds to shoot himself as to show Sherlock "this is what real sociopaths do. You aren't me." Sherlock then fakes his death and metaphorically fakes his sociopathy. Another parallel between the Dark Knight and Sherlock is how both the Joker and Moriarty use the Batman's/Sherlock's love to break them, wether it be through guilt or showing emotion. Moriarty uses John to bring out Sherlock's emotion and prove that Sherlock is no high functioning sociopath. Like the Joker, Moriarty is nothing without his arch-nemesis. In the Dark Knight, the Joker clearly states, "What would I do without you? [You as in Batman] Go back to ripping off mob dealers? No, no, NO! See you... You complete me." Moriarty's sole purpose is to just show Sherlock definitely has feelings and has a heart. Without that, Moriarty gets BORED. But I don't think he would die without Sherlock. Uh-uh. Because in one comic book, (Going Sane) the Batman does die. But the Joker doesn't. He becomes an ordinary person. I guess you could say that the Joker dies because his persona does, but the actual person doesn't. So Moriarty wouldn't die. He'd become normal. Okay, last thing. Sherlock has to choose. Sherlock has to choose between becoming an ordinary person (showing his feelings) (Johnlock hehe

I hope he really is returning in season 4. There's no way they could just kill off Sherlock's arch nemesis in season 2.

Every time I watch this scene it fills me with something like anticipation, but the way they speak also has a calming effect. It makes me feel like I'm in on the conversation.. The third series didn't do this, it made me feel like I was watching it , not like it was happening around me. It's hard to explain, really. This just hangs so much heavier with an air of elegance and fondness... I feel like the show is missing that, now.

I've just realised that both Magnessun and Moriarty both used the term "pressure point". I'm happy :)

No better counterpoint for this Sherlock than this Moriarty. I could watch an hour and a half of just them having tea, that’s how good their acting and their chemistry is. Brilliant writing but the delivery. Man, the delivery. Andrew outshines Benedict in most of their scenes together, and that’s no easy feat. Such brilliant actors. I really wish we’ll get a season 5 where they finally figure out how to really bring Moriarty back. Too good of a character not to, seriously.

One of my favorite scenes!! Andrew Scott is brilliant as Moriarty!! No one can play him as he can!

Right now, I'm finally reading the story this was based on. It's quite terrifying how insane Moriarty is, and yet he's so much fun, like The Joker in some ways.

When Moriarty said everyone has a pressure point, does that have anything to do with S3E3 Charles Augustus Magnussen?

I wonder who died to make Moriarty into the man he is. It says it quite clearly with, "THAT'S WHAT PEOPLE DO!" He lost someone very important and he snapped.

After some thought my 3 favourite scenes: 1) This one, because 2 of the most talented actors you're ever going to see, playing the most famous hero/villain duo to perfection. 2)The Sherlock /Mycroft scene outside the morgue. One you've got that profile shot and secondly we get to see what they're really like when nobody's looking. 3)Crown jewels, it's so funny Andrew's having the time of his life and it shows, also yet again it's beautifully shot, the use of reflection is stunning.

The great thing about this show is that it brought together a gathering of great talents. (In front of, also behind the camera.) It’s best virtue is that of bringing the stories to a new generation.
