The funny thing is I cared for a magpie for a few weeks, when I found it half dead in the park near where I live. I brought it to my garden literally just 5 metres away, to keep it safe. It couldn't fly and he had a gash along his neck and back (possible cat attack). We tried local wildlife aid... nothing. vets.... again nothing. I didn't want to leave it so I kept it in my large shed at night with everything it needed. Every morning at six, I'd let it out for fresh air, run around the garden, gave it food. He would like to spend hours outside can then run into the shed when he wanted. Everyday we did the same, but I kept my distance. And then finally it started to flap it's wings. And then the next day it flew away. So proud of him!

Had a similar experience, a young magpie got stuck in my window well, we fished him out, but the family had moved on, nursed him back to health until he could fly, and brought him to a nearby bird sanctuary sort of place, so he could grow up and learn how to be with others of his kind. Pretty sure he came back after with a family of his own

I love how he doesn't sweeten the life with a bird, he's honest about how hard cleaning and feeding them is, preventing unprepared and thoughtless people from wanting one as a pet. Also, I love magpies - it's so weird one of the smartest animals on the planet just walk among us in the cities, and we don't even pay much attention to each other.

I remember reading that Tesla, when he was 12, trapped a crow in order to study it. He said that dozens of crows descended upon him, seemingly from nowhere, and dive-bombed him until he let the crow go. After that, he had a huge respect for crows, their loyalty, and their courage.

I rescued a magpie, which I named Pacino, a few months ago which had been attacked by a cat and had an injured wing and all her tail feathers ripped out. So I kept her for a few weeks, fed her up, let her heal then released her. She couldn't properly fly when I let her go so she stayed in my garden up in the trees and on the shed, and after a few weeks her feather were grown back enough for her to fly. She will still come back to my garden, now with her mate, and I can recognize her from her uneven feathers. They're ridiculously smart animals and I totally get why he enjoys having one as a pet so much.

狐 You don't seem so smart yourself, they don't hurt or kill people all the time. Sure people get snake and spider bites, but it's not often and it's because they scared the animal most of the time. I've held plenty of venomous species and they haven't been aggressive in the least
@finnjones20286 жыл бұрын
You're more likely to get kicked in the face by a horse than a shark biting you, it doesn't mean you should fear it. In fact certain animals sense fear, it makes them skittish and more likely to hurt people. I've saved animals that could've easily killed or injured me, if I feared them I wouldn't of done and they wouldn't of lived. People are always hesitant to help wild animals, please don't be one of those people. There's no greater feeling than an animal's trust, the magpie I saved nearly a decade ago still comes back to see me
@sorayad11046 жыл бұрын
Taamz Heart it is more of Christianity's doing. In Germanic and Pagan religion/tradition crows are seen as wise, asociated with gods, guiding the souls of the dead and so on. A snake has many positive attributes in Greek mythology like healing-power and wisdom. The spider is also seen as more positive or at least neutral in Ancient Greece. Later many of those animals have become asociated with negative attributes due to Christianity.

In this now awful, selfish world we live in, it is so lovely and refreshing to see a young man like Charlie, do such a lovely, genuine act of kindness for this magpie, who without this young man's love would have died. It is clear the magpie adores the adopted parent (Charlie) and it is clear that Charlie feels the same. We can learn so much from creatures (even insects), they all do so much good towards the world and teach us how to treat the world and each other. Bees for example collect pollen then make all this wonderful honey, (that most of us take for granted). The love (like all animals show) is an unconditional love and Charlie will be paid tenfold for his genuine love and true kindness. I don't believe our creator is a man in the sky in judgement of us all, but i believe it's the spirit of all love and that the universe is made up all that love. This is truly a lovely video about love and the unconditional love Charlie gets in return is just a joy to see and so refreshing to listen to a young person that can actually speak the English language, rather than finishing every other sentence with "do ya know wha' i mean!" I hope they both have a long happy life together, 'Faith, hope and love, the greatest is love...'

London No Dippy Dolly Your the first person that thinks God is not a man. I've come to believe it doesn't matter whether God is male or female. I've never found anything in the Bible stating God is a Man. I think it's very possible that Men wanted God to be a Man thinking they are superior and wanted power over Women. Why make it a bad thing to educate Women anyway ? I find that suspicious right off the bat. Men are still trying to manipulate Women to this day. We're called a feminist if we try to stand up for Womens rights. Men have been fighting against Womens rights refusing to believe women are just as smart ect. I see no end to this ridiculous train of thought. Rape at an all time high due to this belief which is all about power over Women. Men have been treating Women as property since the beginning of time and until it stops things will never change sadly. Men would see things differently if the had to deal with being treated and thought of as a someones property to use and or abuse. No not all Men think like that. I know there are good Men out there. I applaud them all and thankful. Never change guys 😎

Anita Hammonds The Bible never states God is a man, it's unequivocally stated 'God is Spirit' in the Bible. God is only referred to as 'He' by way of human understanding, pretty much no Christian except for little kids believes God to be a man in the sky :) Just wanted to let you know! It's a common misconception of Christianity in particular that we believe in a 'man in the sky', but we believe in an all loving spirit just as much as any new-age follower or philosopher does :)

i do agree that animals are wonderful and we should appreciate them like charlie does. i won't really touch on the religious bits. but i think it's uncalled for to insult other people's way of speaking. when someone grows up around people who talk a certain way, it becomes so ingrained in them that that just becomes a part of their character. i think it's wrong to disregard that and pass it off as "they have trouble speaking english."

Magpies are so wonderful! i had the privilege of raising one here in New Mexico. She (?) had fallen in water and my neighbor found her and gave her to me. Rraca (Urraca is Magpie in Spanish) took over my life too, but it was the most fun. Does yours ever get mad tho...wow, she would try to take anything I was using, especially paint brushes, and would get so mad when I would take them from her! I learned to distract her with something else, an angry bird with a big pointy beak and strong feathers is not to be messed with. She flew all over the house, and outside, I would call her and she would land on my head, ouch. cuz they land and grab at the same time.. she loved to follow me on my bicycle, and would sit on the handle bars sometimes. She also stole things and had hidey holes all over the house. She hid peas in my pants cuffs one time, so silly. And loved baths, what a mess, and would dry her feathers in the sun with her head cocked to one side, basking I guess...I really miss her.... the flock of Magpies here wasnt her flock, and she was getting pecked on, so I worried about her fitting in...but there was a terrible accident, one of those split second timing things, and she got killed, so I didnt get to know her but one summer. I miss her terribly and loved watching yours in her beautiful "nest". I was hoping Rraca would be able to live wild...and just come visit from time to time, and I still cry when I really think about her. Her poop is still on lots of places, its hard as a rock and doesnt smell at all. RIP Rraca, you were loved.

The crow family definitely deserves respect and rebranding, they are such cool, social and intelligent animals. I remember working one day by the window and a crow was playing by taking stones, flying up, dropping them and trying to catch them again before they hit the ground. After a while some of his/her flock joined in and they were racing each other. It made me very happy to see animals doing something that must have been just for fun :) and not only that, but a game they had invented themselves.

I have been visiting and feeding two black crows on Hawks hill in Sausalito above the Golden Gate bridge where I take my morning walk. These two crows are the sweetest and mannerly birds I give them old fashioned oats and the show gratitude they bring me a gift of sticks and pebbles. They are very large as roosters. They are cleaner than humans, they love to clean and take bathes humans should learn to be as clean as they are.

8.21.2017. i have a cockatiel that is 24 years old. the band on his leg says "4-93". i got him for free. he was flying around my neighborhood in the summer of 1993. he went down to drink out of a mud puddle and i told my wife "that's somebodies bird that got out". i went up to him and he hopped on my hand and i put him on my shoulder. i took him home and the rest is history. my 2 girls when they were growing up loved him and it was a good thing. he is part of the family. he has about a 5 word vocabulary. his name is BOYD.

If memory serves, cockatiels are related to the parrot group of perching birds. Since parrots, such as the African Grey, can live up to 80 years old in captivity, I am not surprised he is that old ...

Some birds still feed and protect their babies when they fall out of the nest. And I am pretty sure crows are one of those birds. So don't be too quick taking a fallen bird home with you. Not only you will risk being attacked, it's not always neccesary. Only when the bird is injured or in serious danger (like traffic) or when you are absolutely sure it's abandoned from the nest. 🕊
@wparo7 жыл бұрын
I used to raise chickens. One day a chick hatched, but it was different to all the other chilcks. It was a miniature. It must have been the first chick to be born dwarf. It never grew bigger like it's siblings. I looked after it for weeks and called it mini. It was black and I had to hand feed it as it found it difficult to dig for worms like the rest of the chickens. Oneday I left it for 10 minutes in the back garden with the rest of the chickens, and when I came back a magpie had picked it up. The magpie flew with it. I was torn. Heart-broken. Not all birds are cute and cuddly, especially birds of prey like this magpie.

Magpies can eat birds and still be cute. It's just their diet was evolved to be that way. Doesn't make them rude animals. Also, a magpie isn't a bird of prey, it's a crow species
@riordanjet4 жыл бұрын
i mean, that's just a wild animal doing what it does in terms of the diet needed to survive. it doesn't make it evil or not capable of friendly behaviour. I'm sure you or someone you love eats meat and/or fish - and humans aggressively farm and don't need the meat to survive. but that doesn't make them as individuals bad or uncompassionate.
@theotheseaeagle3 жыл бұрын
Magpies aren’t birds of prey. While they do eat young birds and eggs yes I wouldn’t really call them very predatory, probably opportunistic

@sportz24937 жыл бұрын
@Adt I'm sorry that you're struggling. On the other hand, you're assuming a lot about this fellow based on a 10 minute video. I don't know him any better but these are the things that I know from what I've read. His father, David Gilmour, was not born rich. He won the lottery in the talent department but he also worked very hard for a lot of years to hone that talent. And he got lucky in getting into the right band at the right time. He gives an enormous amount to various charities. He also does not give great wodges of money to his children; Charlie paid for his university education through his own earnings. I don't know that much about Charlie but I do know that he writes for various publications, so I think it is at possible that he is supporting himself. What neither of us know is where he lives or if he pays anything for that accommodation, nor what his wife/partner contributes to it. In addition, I think ALL parents want to provide for their children. The struggle that they face is just how much to do; at what point have you provided so much that you've rendered them incapable of standing on their own? How much do you watch them struggle before you step in and try to solve the problem for them? I know that being wealthy or having wealthy parents removes a LOOOOOOT of worry and discomfort from life but I certainly don't think it solves all of life's challenges or guarantees that you'll be happy. I don't assume that people who have a lot of money are any happier than I am. My parents never had much financially but they were always there for me; I never doubted for a moment that I was wanted and loved. As far as I'm concerned, that makes me incredibly blessed in life. Best wishes to you.

Some people and animal cant trust,but in their own way they are beautiful and they try to live on with families. To all the hunter out there, please think about the animals family, think about their past, think about what your doing and look into their eyes if you see fear, that means they have had horrible expirences like seeing their family be slaughtered so young by hunters like you.

What a lovely friendship they have! Some decades ago, I raised a baby crow, taught him to fly and feed himself, and was able to release him into the wild. His family hung around our house and talked to him. While he was with us, he loved to sit on top of the fridge and throw sticks at the cat, or perch on my head as I washed dishes. He was a wonderful, intelligent, delightful bird.
