Thanks for posting this. I will be drilling my Weber today. I was told that a hole saw would not work and that I would need to buy a 1" solid drill bit but your video proves otherwise. Thanks.

I can barely hear you with the volume turned up. I just purchased a CyberQ Cloud setup for my Weber Performer, mainly for doing briskets and butts. I look forward to using it.

I'm considering doing this to my Weber Kettle/Smokenator setup. I think I'm on my 4th year with the setup. Really interested in better temp control instead of getting a $300+ pellet smoker, etc. Are you still happy with your setup? How has it been doing since posting this video? Thanks for the advice!
@Anonymouslemming4 жыл бұрын
I still use this almost weekly and I'm really happy with it. I did have to replace the ash fans in the bottom recently as I was getting air inflow through them after quite a few years. It still holds temperature really well for anything up to 8 hours. I use it with the slow 'n sear these days (replaced the smokenator) for longer cooks at lower temps (220 - 290), or with separate baskets for high heat cooks like roasts. You can see some of the work it does over at instagram.com/meatandtongs/

Thanks for posting... trying to figure out how to mount on my buddies Weber. This well explains it.

did you drill a different hole for your temp probes? I've got a 27" kettle and I'll be looking to put a hole in it soon... might as well do two if it's better that way!
@Anonymouslemming5 жыл бұрын
I drilled another hole just above the grate and used some 1/2" running nipple nipple with 2 hex nuts holding it in place.

Thanks for the video! This gave me the resolve to bite the bullet and get a controller for my kettle, though I ordered the Flame Boss. One question: does the placement of the adapter interfere with the sweep of the blades in the bottom of the kettle? How has the position worked for you?
@Anonymouslemming5 жыл бұрын
I have the adaptor above the blades - once I'd measured, I swept them back and forth to make sure they'd be clear. I did that so that I can still use it as a normal grill or smoker without the fan in. Being slightly higher also seems to help with ashing - it's blowing above where most of the ash sits, so it's not lifting it and moving it around. It's been working great for around 2 years now - I've made a similar modification to a pit barrel cooker since with equally happy results.

How does the sweeper work with it installed?

Thanks for showing an excellent detailed process on how to do this. I wonder if you see much ash coming up to your food with the blower? I am debating purchasing one of these myself and wonder if you would do it all over again? Thanks.
@Anonymouslemming7 жыл бұрын
Warren Wadel Hi. I’ve had no ashing issues at all. For the most part, the blower isn’t running all the time and it’s light puffs only. I’d definitely do it again. It’s made a big difference to the ease of running long cooks for me.
@ApriliaRSV4F7 жыл бұрын
It looks like the blower is positioned above where you would have ash, isn't it?
@Anonymouslemming6 жыл бұрын
Yes, it is. It's below the lower grate (where the coals sit) but above the ash catch area which is the bottom of the bowl.

FYI viewers you are supposed to use a 7/8th inch hole not 1 inch.

Needless work , destroying a perfectly good grill, i never have problem with temps, i just use a digital thermometer. GOOD LUCK THOUGH!
@hsuccop6 жыл бұрын
If you are simply grilling at high temps for a short period of time then you don't need to worry about temp control. But, if you are cooking "slow and low" at say 225F for four to six hours then you would need this.
@Anonymouslemming6 жыл бұрын
Before this setup, I often cooked for many hours low and slow. But doing it in the rain and cold and variable temps (~ -2 - 8C) made keeping temp hard. This makes it brainless - start, set temp, go work on something while food happens :)
