For those whose education deprived them of this knowledge Thomas C, Ashley became famous in the 1950s and 1960s and 70s as CLARENCE ASHLEY as a banjo player and folk singer in the Folk Revival. Mike Seeger and Ralph Rinzler meeting his at the Galax festival in the late 1950s and asking him if he was related to "Clarence Ashely" who made the records in the 20s, led not only to Tom Ashley's being rerecorded or and acknowledged, but to the discovery of a guy Tom asked to come along to back him on guitar named Doc Watson to being recorded.
