Very good information. I am in the process of converting one. I have five arc5 style radios, the first one someone had change the tuning range 20 to 30 mhz. Have 2 that are 3 - 5 mHz and two 6 to 9.1 mhz. After these I thought of converting a THE VHF-152 10, 6, AND 2 METER converter. Then a home made HE-73 converter by lafayette. W9FS

Your video cut out before giving the info on where to get you book on converting from tube to solid state. Is there another video on this first video?

Encountered a few differences in the BC455 the if coils are different. I would think the BFO would oscillate at 2830 kHz with the values used in the 1415 kHz, unless the secondary is wound 180° different from the BC454. And that is where I'm at right now. This 455 has been modified to tune 20 to 30 mhz. And the local oscillator is working with the values for the BC454.

There is quite a variety of these type of units. The only one of this type that I have converted is the 454B but I believe the conversion of any of them would be very similar while using the methods found in my manual. Use a sensitive frequency counter to determine the frequency of the oscillator as well as the IF's. In any event the IF coupling should be the same as in my schematic. Have fun.

@@charlessmith833 the secondary was wound as I suspected. I use some older test equipment. The LO tuned 20 to 30 kHz range and I am moving slow. I have a IFR 500, I have a good freq counter, and an old Cushman spectrum analyzer, the two oscillator are clean. I will write more when I'm finished

My project is all wired, local osc. works, IF stages work , BFO works, Not doing any conversion, don't know if the RF stage or the mixer if at fault. Will work on it later. will report more later.

@@charlessmith833 I have found an error! the drain of the oscillator the Diagram shows a resistor to ground, the parts diagram shows a different value seeing i have an overwhelming amount of rf I think i need to make a change, also the gate shows a 1 meg ohm resistor to ground in the parts breakout not so on the diagram.
