For viewers in other countries, the Fraser River canyon runs north-south along the arid east side of the Coast Mtns for about 150 km / 100 miles, CN and CP Rail follow it for its southern half. At the village of Lytton (rhymes with mitten) CN & CP veer north-east up the Thompson River Canyon to Kamloops. BC Rail pops into the Fraser River Canyon at the town of Lillooet about 80 km / 50 miles north of Lytton, after a difficult crossing of the Coast Mtns passing the famous ski resort of Whistler, once north of Lillooet BC Rail climbs 900 meters / 2700 feet in about 40 km / 25 miles up the side of the canyon before turning east into the last ranges of the Coast Mtns, once through those it is on the 1200 M / 4000 Foot high plateau of central British Columbia, where it heads north.

Effective April 8, 2020, Canadian National Railway will suspend train service between Williams Lake and Squamish, B.C. The move comes due to the decline in customer demand that makes it no longer feasible for CN to maintain the current service profile, CN senior manager of communications Jonathan Abecassis confirmed in an e-mail Friday.

I have a cabin near Kelly Lake. Sure miss B. C. Rail. Only two through freight trains come by daily now. Oh well. Better than nothing!
