Respect to anyone who "runs what they brung" with no trailers involved. Great old school motorsport. Well done James.

Glad you enjoyed the track! I was marshalling down on the last hairpin that day, and was happy to see a Swift Sport taking part! Cracking little cars. Nearly owned one myself. I believe I actually had a chat with you at one point as well during the day.

Interesting insight into your time off. Try Castle Combe or Thruxton, not too far from you. Those tyre barriers look well unsafe if one of those nutters loses control. A proper circuit is much safer.

I'm wondering about the cost differential, which I'm guessing is significant ...
@richfixescars2 жыл бұрын
Last time I did Castle Combe in summer 2021 it was £120, not cheap, but a great circuit.

I wouldn't be standing as close to the track with only heaps of tyres to prevent an out of control car killing you!

Yep, my idea of a great track day: drive there in a cheap but sporty little box, rag the hell out of it on the track, then drive it home. If you fancy yourself as the next Lewis Hamilton feel free to spend five or six figures on a head turner, personally I think you can have a better hoot in a sporty shopping trolley!😉

I have a Swift, not a Sport just a 2017 1.2 SZ-L, it has been spot on in the year I have had it but like mentioned in the video it just needs a sixth gear. It’s great for town work but motorways just need the missing sixth!
@leonismyname65732 жыл бұрын
Having a fang in a dirt cheap car is brilliant. Keep the front & rear tyres the same though, or you'll be driving a helicopter mid corner, and under braking. Speaking as somebody who has been trundling round in club level motorsport for coming up on 30 years, I've done different tyres front to rear, and it didn't go well for me.

For what that cost you could have booked yourself on to a proper circuit, Thruxton, Donington Park, Castle Combe etc. I'd highly recommend doing that next time. An open pit lane day with one of them will also give you more track time. Also one other thing I will say is don't feed the wheel. That could see you in a lot of trouble very quickly if you're feeding the wheel then get all crossed up trying to catch a slide. Good driving otherwise and it's always good to see low powered cars being used in anger. Since doing track days myself I've often found those in low powered cars are better drivers than those that turn up in 500bhp cars trying to show off.
@mikeware52822 жыл бұрын
I thought your cornering etc was pretty good. It always amazes me that people who have only driven modern "assisted" cars have no idea about breaking or corners!! Your like me - old enough to remember cars with no aids whatsoever so you get it!! great video.

You did well but you need to go to a track that has no barriers /tiled walls on the edge you will have more confidence as you know you cannot hit them no run-off as you will always be worried about damaging your car if you come off the track

Good day out dude 👍 Have a look for some part worn slicks or inters from the rally lads! Also don't have the car as full with fuel, fill a Jerry can and top it up, loads of excess weight in a full ish tank of fuel 🚗💨 👍
@stephenjones91532 жыл бұрын
I'd advise against part worn slicks I've seen the damage they can do when they let go at 100+Mph. To be honest I would advise against part worn tyre's full stop, especially if you drive on Motorways.😉🙂👍👍
@hoggmotorsport2 жыл бұрын
@@stephenjones9153 they'll be fine for track days dude, used loads myself without a problem 👍 maybe if it was a 500bhp monster and most motorsport tyres are branded "not for highway use" anyway. Almost every set of tarmac tyres I've used on my rally cars were all part worn, never had an issue 👍😉😁
