This educational session will increase participants’ knowledge of acute myeloid leukemias through a case study format. We will describe a patient’s initial presentation and workup for acute leukemia. We will focus on 4 clinical scenarios that can lead to clinical instability in the acute leukemia patient: leukocytosis, sepsis, tumor lysis syndrome & disseminated intravascular coagulation. We will review the workup required for a new leukemia diagnosis. Finally, we will review treatment considerations based on risk stratification and molecular markers.
