I love the way they showed a century transition form a college into a university. BCC TO BCU !!!!! That was an incredible display ! :)

Again, THANK YOU....we know how to demonstrate class and integrity. Also, there's not maybe----we are better than SU and FAMU.

why down a fellow black institution for becoming something better? There is plenty of people that dont even want them around because they know we are putting out great students which are taking over in all industries. Exactly the same reason why fsu has been trying to take over famu for years. Hbcu's are a dying breed we are all we have and we have to stay united so we all can make sure that the same thing that happened to morris brown doesnt happen again.

@dcraig1865 i know that's how i determine a bands sound as well. eventhough im a percussionist i still know what the hornline is suppose to sound like, for example FAMU and BCU best in the MEAC in my opinion while for SWAC its PVAMU as far as sound goes.
@dcraig186514 жыл бұрын
@TheDragonmaster18 I Marched NCCU so I was a little familiar with NC A&T, Norfolk, FAMU, and Hampton. I liked Hampton's sound but they were the best HBCU I had heard. I haven't been around black band for so long that I forgot how cheezy it could be sometimes. Haha You are right, it is for entertainment. So EVERY single stunt is made as plain and clear to the audience. That slows the pace of a show WAY down. (As compared to white college bands, not to mention DCI)

I've been watching Cookman since high school and that was Many Many MANY Moons ago. Although i Love their sound... why are their arrangements so chopped up? Sometimes you can't really even understand what songs they are playing... I kno im not the 1st & won't be the last to say that* but other than that... They have ah Great Program. #Hubba100 This FAMU & Cookman Rivalry is Truly Historic but does anyone have a Clip of the Very 1st Florida Classic?
@dcraig186514 жыл бұрын
@TheDragonmaster18 Interesting that you mentioned Earth, Wind & Fire. I marched BRIDGEMEN in the 80s (DCIs top drum line 80, 81, 82) The Bridgemen were famous for playing popular music including E,W &F. The thing is, the crowd at a DCI competition is music savy. They didn't come to see a football game. So, the music has to be played well and written well. Im most cases, if you add enough techncal difficulty to pop music to be competitive, it will no longer sound much like whats on the radio.

WOW!!! After watching a few clips of BC, I must say I have changed my mind about HBC bands. I always hated them, even when I was a marching member of one myself in the mid 80's. People always told me that there were some HBC bands that could actually play MUSIC well and not just loud but I thought THEY didn't know what they were talking about. SURPRIZE... I was wrong. I still prefer DCI for myself but they are good.

@dcraig1865 im a music major myself but im thinking about changing my major to hospitality but what you said is true. i go to houston community college. we dont have a band but i am in the rice university band and at halftime our stadium is almost empty. we are what most people call a scatter band. we dance to but nothing like the hbcu bands, hell im the only music major in the band and the best snare player they have.

@TheDragonmaster18 How can you NOT like BD? ha ha Anyway - I Marched Blue Stars and Bridgemen (DCI), NCCU (HBCU), and four years in The U.S. Marine Drum and Bugle corps. (Yes, the Marine corps actually has a drum corps.) I have had a pretty well rounded marching career. Good luck with The Crossmen. They rock too.

One thing that FAMU & BCU have in common that I like is that u can understand what their playing unlike the bands in the SWAC. The bands in the swac just sound loud and sloppy.
@wildcat7716 жыл бұрын
The first formation was of the founder of the instituion (Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune-it was displayed on the jumbo tron), honoring her contrubution and the significane. As for the second during the dance routine, you've seen her on many 18 wheelers driving on the expressway (usually on the splashguards), representing a freaky girl (the song they played).
@dcraig186514 жыл бұрын
@TheDragonmaster18 BTW, when I say this or that band sounds better, I'm usually talking about hornlines. I was a trumpet player. I didn't realize you were a drummer. Quite a few HBCU bands have decent drumlines, I think.

FAMU is the largest HBCU in the nation and you all are supported by the Great State of Florida (No Brainer). Congratulations on getting everything straighten out though.

you know what ill give fam their props on their Drill, well the first part. It was rather entertaining to see stick figures yet again. But the rest of the show was purely another culmination of shows that they have already done this year. Its like they dont even try for classic. Which is why i think their shows arent as awe-inspiring as they have been in the past (90's-2001) Ever since '04 its like they have been "riding their rep" not much is original anymore.

@dcraig1865 well there's really no comparison cause his is college as oppose of DCI is professional and all they want to do is win competitions. HBCU bands are only for entertainment you should since you marched for one. and pretty much all HBCU bands in the MEAC sound like this. and by the way PVAMU a SWAC school dont just play loud they actual sound similar to this.

Theres only one band I know that doesnt stop moving during a halftime show and thats Grambling. And these bands are EERILY similar to one another. In sound, stlye,dance,and marching. Must be a Fla thang. Anybody notice that besides me?

All the band directors where close in the 60s, 70s and 80s that's why they are similar.

@dcraig1865 i like DCI to but why must they pick music that nobody has ever heard of? im sure they know how to entertain and win at the same time. im not asking them to play pop songs or anything but play classics like EARTH, WIND & FIRE, ELVIS, MICHEAL JACKSON, PERCY SLEDGE, AL GREEN. basically everyone from that time. then they'll have more fans than just people who are marching band folk. why do you think people like HBCU bands. but i like DCI to except BD
@dcraig186514 жыл бұрын
@TheDragonmaster18 I think the reason I hated show bands back then was, I was a music major, transferred from an arts school, and wanted to be surrounded by quality players like myself, not "entertain" people by dancing. Show bands are about entertaning fans. And football fans that don't give a rats ass about music. Even at white colleges, the fans go get a hot dog or something at halftime. At black colleges, the fans what to see the bands battle. To some, it is even bigger than the game.

You would like for them talented young men and women of the Marching Wildcats to be sent to the Capital of Florida wouldn't you! Those so called marching 100 members wouldn't even be able to handle them! And, closed down, get out of here! Unlike famu, The "GREAT" Bethune-Cookman University is owned by it's trustees, alumni, and students ok...Not by the STATE!!!

Think before you post. Most of our ancestors have made ways for you and I by cleaning and polishing shoes for others.
