A competing spot would be at spaghetti junction where pylons meet at an electricity substation over expected M6/M5/A38(M) interchange over railway with marshalling yard and steam loco sheds not far away at Tyseley over 3 canals joining together over the River Rea ("Ray") joining the Tame.

Just finished it. Received 5 days ago. Excellent, well researched, beautifully written & presented. Best digested with a copy of the Geographers' Birmingham A-Z to hand to help pinpoint precise locations within the region. Well played Phil Clayton, it will become a classic. Michael Priest

Spot on Michael - up there with Broadbridge and Shill.Even better than the A-Z is Richard Dean's historical map of the BCN.

Knowing Phil it will be well researched, well written and well worth a read. There are no finer or diverse waterways in concentration than the Birmingham Canal Navigations. I have explored most parts of them by boat and foot and fished a fair proportion too. I hope to get a signed copy of Phil's book soon (or rather my copy signed).

Book duly ordered! I was just about to tuck into me butties when this came up on my KZbin feed. What a pleasant surprise, made the sarnies that more palatable.

@@lifeat2.3milesanhour57 Yes, I've read the first chapter and, of course, perused all the photographs starting from the back and working forward, (I really have no idea why I do that!) The book has certainly grabbed my attention so far, and can't help me thinking what a delight it would have been to be taught by Phil.
