Thanks, I run an 853 with the 13hp gas engine and currently have a 26" brush mower which I can run in 3rd gear much of the time. I've wondered if the 34" flail mower would do ok in 1'-2' high pasture in 3rd gear.

+Ethan Gouge the flail mower would have no trouble at all under these conditions. In the video I was running in 1st and 2nd whilst mowing 3-5 foot tall pasture.

It seems like the tractor and mower are really struggling though, even in this little bit of pasture you are mowing. Do you have to mow twice?

What is the flail mower width? What gear is the tractor in?

Hello +Katie Gouge, great question, this unit is 34 inches wide and does require the more powerful tractors, like the 13hp & up gas 11hp and up diesel, BCS or Grillo. The Berta Flail Mower also comes in a 26 inch wide model which can be run with the 9hp and up gas, 8hp & up diesel, BCS or Grillo. You can find good information about the other manufactures and their specs here: earthtoolsbcs.com/html/bcs_implements.html#mow. As for what gear is the tractor in, I am assuming you're wondering what gear it will run in. Since the tractor has a drive gear and a separate implement speed, it's best to run the implement at full speed and the drive speed no faster than speed 2 on the machine. I suppose it all depends on how tall your material is. If you're just using it to mow a short grass (12 inches or less), I would imagine you could run it in speed 3. Speed 4 would require a ride along accessory unless you're really fast on your feet ;). If you are wondering what speed I am running in during the video, it's mostly speed 2 with a few exceptions when it's running in speed 1. Does all of this help answer your question? Are you mowing cover crop on garden beds? This implement excels in this area if you are.
