Final bed preparation involves loosening the top two inches of soil so that young roots can quickly expand into the surrounding soil. Two factors are of critical importance: (1) to not go too deep, thereby preserving soil structure; and (2) to gently firm the surface in order to establish the good seed-to-soil contact needed for germination. This video compares the two BCS attachments, the Power Harrow and the Precision Depth Roller, that accomplish final bed prep both efficiently and with ease.
