BCS Walk-Behind Tractor: Reverser Linkage - Operation & Adjustment

This video shows the operation of the wheel direction reverser linkage on BCS walk-behind tractors...demonstrated on a model 853, but a similar system has been used by BCS since roughly 1990, and the parameters illustrated here are consistent for all of the cable-operated reversers on BCS. It is also accurate for the cable-operated reverser on older Grillo G107 and all Grillo G110 tractors.

This exact thing happened to me. What I lacked was the view of how far the little arm had to swing. I had adjusted the tension, but obviously not enough. Once seeing this video, I got it right! So, thank you!! Idea for a new vid: A video on adjusting and lubing the brakes on a 853.

Joel, regarding my call, today, 11/3/14 -- The problem wasn't tension on that cable, it was that there was too much slack on the whole cable pulled down through the guides from up the handles, and it was jamming against the shifter linkage, keeping the reverser from traveling all the way into reverse. I eased some of that slack back up above the first guide, and the problem was solved. There was some chafing of the cable jacket, so I'll have to watch that. Wouldn't have known what to look for without this video and the call, though. Thanks, again. -- Tom Cox

Somehow the spring and rod on mine fell out. I couldn't get it back together with just my hands and then I realized if I put the rod inside the spring and use zip ties to fully compress the spring (with safety glasses on), then the whole thing could be put in place and then cut the zip ties.

@@kevinquijas3592 Using zip ties to compress the spring worked great, but unfortunately the whole rod/spring bit kept falling out. So I should probably replace them.
