Your video has been immensely useful, summarizing setting up a baitcasting reel in a comprehensive and systematic manner as it does. I wish I'd seen it before setting out on my baitcasting journey. I'm going to practice my casting in the next few days so I'll be ready for mid June when the close season ends here in the UK. Then it will time to try out my new found skills on the local perch population.

I'm not a beginner baitcaster user anymore but, I found this to be good information, with solid logic to back up your points. Most other videos out there are just repeating the same tips.

Great beginner tips on casting baitcaster reels, especially casting upwoods. I have been enjoying your videos and was surprised and felt your pain in regards to public fishing access in your recent video. Here in Sydney we have the very same problems with access to our waterways. Fishing is very much neglected in any major new developments here as a recreation or sport .

Thanks for these tips. Ordered an XF50 after watching your reviews and now I know how to set it up and practice. There’s very little info on UL baitcasting/BFS available to English speakers. Your content is invaluable.

So Glad I found your channel...Great tips. I'm new to bait casting. Last time I used a bait cast real was too far back to remember, with the old round reels with with a click drag button, LOL. Only been using one now for about 8 fishing trips. I do it for a while, then switch to my spinning setups to get some fishing time in, LOL.. I like your Looking up tip, I cast up, usually by accident, and always felt like I was doing something wrong with all the hang time. But I've never gotten a back lash when I've done that...you are 100% correct.. Thanks again, for your Concise, and Knowledgeable Videos.........

I’m a total newbie to bait casting and I have to say that your videos are very well done. I’m not going out yet. I have to get the various elements nailed in my head and then I will venture out. I plan to begin practicing using a small weight and on grass... that way the temptation to try and fish, jumping steps, is removed. It will be hard to do but that’s better to arrive at the water’s edge with some skill level already. Keep up the great work. I’m really learning a lot from this channel. Your presentation is also good,and you should be proud of your English and enunciation. Hope to see you on the banks some time in the future...

short but very helpful especially casting up at 45. but with a dual brake system would same advice of magnetic full brakes and centrifugal brakes 50-75% still apply? or would you recommend a different brake set up as a complete beginner? probably picking up the picifun phantom to try this weekend

Love your videos! I purchase the XF50 with my Christmas money :-) . I am disabled with the use only my left hand. I was wondering I have a B'n'M Sam Hearton super sensitive crappie rod. Power-Light action-fast,sensitive tip. Do you think my rod work with the reel I purchased ?keep on making videos and I would definitely watch them.Thanks Determine Fermin from So Cal.

I'm one that have been put off by the complexity of casting reels but thanks to you im going to pull the trigger on one this year,what gear ratio do you recommend for a newbie like me, I'm going to cast surface, hard lures and jiggs
@BCSGFishing6 жыл бұрын
Victor Franqui happy to help man! I would recommend a higher gear ratio reel for that, something along the lines of 7.0:1 or more. It assists in picking up slack line when working jigs and helps build a good rhythm when working topwater pencils.

I have a baitcaster and its sitting in my garage collecting dust because it backlashes every cast
@johnrogers58255 жыл бұрын
It's probably faulty, but I'm willing to waste five dollars buying it for parts.

Good tutorial. I learned how to use a baitcaster from one of those videos that you mentioned that suggests playing with the spool tension until the lure slow drops and lands without overrunning. In retrospect, your way is much better because it ultimately teaches you how to use a baitcaster vs just teaching you how not to back lash. Consequently, once I got the hang of not back lashing, I spent a lot of time not getting any better at casting. For a long time I was under the misconception that casting harder was the only way to get more distance. The one criticism I have is that you didn't explain that as you get more confident, you can see your spool overrunning mid cast and that you can back off the brakes up until you see your spool overrunning in order to get more distance.

wish I would have saw this video before using my new baitcaster with o.6mm g-soul braid" bad backlash that could not get out as very thin braid" so had to cut out"
