Just for perspective, each side of the scrum usually weights around 900 kilograms (1984.16 pounds), and the front 3 are responsible for holding that scrum up. Crazy strength!

1,2 and 3 are the front row in the scrum. 1 and 3 are the "props" and 2 in the middle is propped up and needs to hook the ball backwards to his 8th man at the back of the scrum usually. The scrum needs to be held up while the 8th man (usually) controls the ball with his feet to keep it in the scrum if they are going forward, or to get it to his scrum half (9) if they are either going back, neutral or want to start the attack. The scrumhalf usually puts the ball in near his hookers feet do the hooker can hook the ball back. No hands allowed in the scrum. If the opposing players can't keep the scrum up if they are pushed, it's a penalty against them.
@rachelletobias7402
@rachelletobias7402 Ай бұрын
One more thing, the teams can't collapse, put hands on the ground, can't push or stand up, can't push inwards towards the hooker (they must push straight against their opposing number) and they can't wheel the scrum, meaning, the 1 for example can't backpedal while the 3 doesn't which would make the scrum go 45 - 180 degrees.. both 1 and 3 must be in line, else it's a penalty.

When the springboks won last years World Cup Ox Nche was, for me, the key player. The quarter final, semi final and final were won by 1 point margins and Ox’s scrummage power was the difference. How he wasn’t on the shortlist for player of the year boggles the mind

The dark arts off the Scrum is a thing of beauty. Most don't apreciate it as much as they should. Unless you've been in a scrum yourself. Ox Noche is the boss of the scrum and the best Prop looshead( number 1 on his jersey) in the world.

Majority of true rugby enthusiasts from around the world who understand rugby were upset that Ox Nche wasnt nominated as world rugby player of the year for 2024...The large front row players who don't do all the fancy footwork and running don't get the recognition they deserve but they do the hard work to make it possible for those fancy backline players to shine...

So Ox is the best Prop currently. I guess we must always take player position into consideration when saying a player is the best at something... Props don't even get recognition from World Rugby, so it's an underrated yet invaluable position

The main function of scrumming is to restart the game after a handling error, or an unplayable ball in a ruck. The aim of the scrum is to win the ball cleanly so you can either play out the back from nine or your number eight picking and running. But there are nuances. You dominate the opponent scrum into committing illegal acts like wheeling the scrum sideays due to pressure, or breaking up due to pressure. This allows the dominant tram to win penalties, but it is also to destroy their confidence and cause fatigue as it takkes a lot out of your legs
@rightmunted7538

I'd say right now, when he's playing his best Antione Dupont definately has the biggest impact on the game as an individual, but Ireland, the All Blacks and Springboks are just all star lineups. Markus Smith on England's team is incredible too.

So for the scrum they're keeping the ball in for as long a possible to possibly get the opposition team to infringe a penalty which gives the opportunity to either kick for goal or kick for territory while maintaining possession. A penalty in a scrum is either awarded if the opposing side collapses the scrum or they get pushed upright, getting pushed backwards alone is not technically a penalty. Ox is really good at pushing the opposing tighthead prop into a point where they have to infringe. His scrummaging alone isn't what makes him great though he does a lot of less flashy grunt work that wins games, makes dominant tackles, clears rucks to protect the ball, carries the balls over the gainline(meaning he requires multiple tacklers which means less players on defense).

There are 15 players on the field... no 1 to 5 are the big boys, the engen room of the team,, 6 to 8 are the loose forwards, they are the fast big boys, big and agile, no 9 is the scrum half, he connect the forward players with the backline... no 10 is the fly half, the decision maker in the team,, usualy kicks field goals.. 11 and 14 are the wingers,, they are the finnishers in the game, like Cheslin Colbe,, the try scorers... no 12 and 13 are the centers, they are usualy stronger agile and fast, they take the most hits in the backline.. and then no 15.. the fullback, he is basicaly the last line of defence,, the " goal keeper" ... hope it helps..

Winning a scrum has a couple off goals. 1 is to win more meters on the field. 2. Is to get the other team on the back foot. If you're scrum goes forward the entire defensive line from the opposing side has to back up and that puts them at a disadvantage moving backwards. 3. Is to secure the ball for your team. 4. Would be to win a penalty goal so you kan kick for points. If you're scrum dominates you can win a penalty to kick at goal.

To single any player or position out as being the best isn’t really feasible because rugby is probably the most team based sport there is and the saying here is very true that even the best player is only as good as his team, if it’s not a coherent team even the hardest players won’t have much success on the field. A no15 would probably be the most valuable of the players as they are usually the main kicker, the last line of defence, receiver of deep opposition kicks.

Problem is that Rugby Union is not a single player! greatest what? Forward? 2nd row? Tight head? loose head? Flankers? No8's ? Fly half. scrum half? Centres? Wingers? full backs? you take any decision and put them into the wrong position and they're useless there!

Scrums can be quite confusing, refs get it wrong but if the front row players were ever selected for player of the year than Ox would've got it this year. They just not as flashy as the loose forewards and backs, they do the dirty work and the front row is not a nice place to be in the scrum. I was No3 until under 16 then became a loose foreward. Springboks have an excellent scrum coach.

I’m an Irishman grew up watching and playing Rugby. As much as this hurts to say Antoine Dupont is in my humble opinion the greatest Rugby player. DuPont can do it all, the chap from SA is fast, quick, and agile which all great wingers should be. It’s Duponts mind that makes him the best. He is five steps ahead of the opposition all the time.

Antoine Dupont is the greatest current player for me without a doubt. I would also say he is the greatest in history. He does everything a back should - but also the things forwards are great at. There is nobody else with his skill level right now. In history people like Dan Carter and Brian O’Driscoll are comparable, but Dupont is just ridiculous. You can make a highlight reel from nearly every game he plays.

You can forget about this guy, he would barely be in my springbok team, he isn’t bad for his small size, but he isn’t very good at scrumming and he is a bit small for loosehead. He isn’t bad in terms of work rate though, but he isn’t even the best in his position in South Africa, never mind in his sport in the world. Most people just believe the hype and commentators because they know nothing about scrums and regurgitate what they say, yet they know nothing about scrums either 😂
