Hey, I have the same recon BT and mine does not "LOCK" in SEARCH MODE. IT looks in position on SEND and OFF. Is that normal, or is that part of the material recall?

It's a feature. If you slide just shove the slide up, you want it to lock into the safest position which is transmitting for you.

Thanks for sharing. I have been searching for a great example of the beacon in use...this was just what I needed. Question, why the Recon over the Guide? This will be my first beacon and just trying to figure out which would be best for me.

The Guide BT is the same to the average user but with more features for the advanced user. Do you need to spend the extra on those features?
