The reason Gotham and Metropolis are so close together in DC Villains compared to Batman 2 is quite simple: Dimensions. They were literally slammed together and had to be majorly rebuilt. This would also explain the numerous design changes of the two cities.
@ShockwaveFPSStudios7 ай бұрын
In Dimensions, there was a reason for this. The Entire Multiverse was in chaos, and so Lord Vortech caused each of the dimensions to go down in global destruction. However, most of the assets & designs of the architecture were the same as the ones seen in the 2nd & 3rd LEGO Batman Games. So there’s no way the citizens of Gotham & Metropolis would rebuild the buildings from the ground up.

I have a Lego Dimensions related theory: When Lord Vortech ripped apart the multiverse, he caused cataclysmic events to occur in every Lego universe, including Lego DC, which had Gotham, Metropolis and Atlantis seemingly collide. However when the damage Vortech did to the multiverse was undone, the universes were probably repaired, but not fully the same. I think the events of Dimensions were likely akin to a Crisis on Infinite Earths that caused the Lego DC universe to reboot.

The thing about Joker's origin is that it was never consistent at all Batman registered the events with the Red Hood on the batcomputer, but he's the only one with that information The biography in DC Super-Villains is from the prison records, so his origin is unknown for them While in Batman 2, Vicki Vale says in one of her cutscenes that there were rumors about Joker having an accident in a makeup factory or smth So Batman is the only one that knows the truth
@comicfan13247 ай бұрын
6:47 if I could throw my hat into the ring, I think there is a way to explain how both biographies for the joker could simultaneously work: 1. When DC super villains biography states that “his true origin forever shrouded in mystery“ that technically doesn’t contradict the red hood origin because not even Batman knew who he truly was under that hood. we don’t know if he had a pregnant wife who tragically died, we don’t know if he was an enforcer for the mob, we don’t even know if his dad ever told him “let’s put a smile on that face”. All we know is that he had a red hood on when he met Batman and after falling into a chemical vet, he emerged as the joker. To me that sounds pretty mysterious. 2. The red hood origin could just be one of the “multiple-choice” origins that joker has given out over the years and Batman has simply theorized that it is most likely to be true. 3. The bios are not written from Bruce’s perspective, but instead, they are written from a meta-textual point of view. So they could both be accurate. The red hood story could be his true beginnings while at the same time no one knows that for sure.

Either in comics Harley did go from her OG/better design 2 her more modern/worse design as well. The 3 Joker's comic wasn't awful, just rushed. I disagree with this completely. While LEGO Batman 1 is definitely different compared to the 2nd & 3rd games, I should point out that the game came out in 2008, back when LEGO Games started to have more mumble as opposed to the voice acting that LEGO Island & the EA Developed LEGO Games had. So there’s a reason why it doesn’t have voice acting compared to its sequels. I still think LEGO Batman 1 is still canon to the events to the 2nd & 3rd game, especially when it helps enhances Batman’s relationship with Robin and eventually the Justice League. Heck LEGO Batman 3 references the first game when Joker boots up the first game in order to send some missiles to Batman & Robin.

Secondly just becuse LB2, LB3, Dimensions & supervillains creates a relationship between Batman and the Justice League that is heavily expanded upon in those games and explores the relationship between those games versions of Batman and Robin doesn't automatically make it canon that's a silly argument. Thirdly while the title screen of LB1 is refrenced in LB3 that doesn't mean their Canon to eachover. Just because something refrences something else doesn't make it automaticly canon to eachover for example lego marvel superheroes 1 references Batman with Black Panther and LB3 references Marvel characters like Spider-man and Captain America yet the Lego DC and Lego Marvel game franchises are not canon to eachover or for another example if Halo refrences Marathon doesn't mean they are canon. Just becuse something refrences something else doesn't make them canon to eachover. Overall you have created arguments for points I never made and not really actually tackled any points I made. You clearly don’t know a defense is. I was defending the canonicity LEGO Batman 1 has towards the rest of the trilogy, as well as those versions of DC’s beloved characters being involved in LEGO Dimensions. You’re saying that I brought up points that you never said, but in actuality, I was backing up my claim that LEGO Batman 1 is canon to the other LEGO DC Games. It sounds like you’ve never seen a “in my defense” type of comment. It’s relevant to explain how LEGO Batman 1 used mumbling, compared to the other LEGO DC games, because mumbling is what made the tone, atmosphere, and mood, in LEGO Batman 1. Your counter argument’s irrelevant because you’re getting mad at me for giving you a reason as to why LEGO Batman 1’s tone & humor are different compared to it’s later entries. As for the world, The LEGO DC Games tend to change its world a bit, I’ll give you that. But there’s an explanation for why Gotham City looks different in LB1, then how it looks LB2-Dimensions as well as DC SuperVillains. LEGO Batman 1’s Gotham was different than the other two games, however, that’s because the world was mainly designed to be levels for the game. LEGO Batman 2’s Gotham was designed to be more open world based, which is why Gotham looked different compared to how it was in LEGO Batman 1… with the levels being designed around the hub world. Despite this, LEGO Batman 2’s version of Gotham remained consistent with LEGO Batman 3 and the DC Levels & Hub World in LEGO Dimensions, as Gotham wasn’t relatively the main place to go to go to in those games. LEGO Batman 3 explored more of the Lantern Corps, and LEGO Dimensions was a crossover game, so DC wasn’t the primary focus. LEGO DC SuperVillains did change Gotham and Metropolis, in order to be more aligned with the Rebirth Era of DC Comics, but as the video states, there’s a line spoken by one of the NPCs where he jokingly says how Gotham & Metropolis gets reboot every so often. In conclusion, I didn’t create arguments you never made… I’m defending and explaining why LEGO Batman 1’s canon to the other LEGO DC Games, which you overreacted.

@@ShockwaveFPSStudios First of all you keep saying that I'm overreacting and that I'm mad that your giving reasons for your beliefs, this is simply not true if anyone is getting mad and overreacting it's you, I'm not the one being so rude as to say "you clearly don't know what a defence is". I would also like to say that I'm well aware your trying to formulate a defence for your belief that LB1, LB2, LB3, Dimensions & Supervillains are all in the same canon, I can read so did surmise that from your original comment. On your argument that mumbling is 'what made the tone, atmosphere and mood' your just plain wrong. First of all, clearly the humor between the mumble and voice acting era will necessarily have to be different due to the fact that one has to be communicated visually and physical only whereas one can be words with physical and visual humor as other options like at a comedy show for example, HOWEVER your argument as I said is wrong. First of all the voice acting era still uses lots of humor that is communicated visually and physically as in the mumble era and if anything made the humor slighly less funny. Secondly the mumbling litterally has no effect on the tone, atmosphere and mood. This is becuse in LB1 those things are crafted not by the mumbling but by the auditory world such as through music and sounds as well as through the scenery. Thirdly in the early era of Lego games made by Tt such as the TCS, Indiana Jones 1 and LB1 the games had a generally more serious tone as opposed to LB3 for example which further contributes to the tone, atmosphere and mood and which ultimately create a world that feels fundamental diffrent. When it comes to the visual style of the world I have no problem with it changing in theory as long as it does not fundamentally undermine the previous style or for example alter it so much as to not be compatible whatsoever with the previous style for example: when examining the diffrence between Bungie's art style for Halo 1-3 & Halo: Reach there are major differences for example with the design of the Covenant let's say the Elites for example while the designs are very diffrent I actually like the Reach designs more and they do not undermine the tone, atmosphere, mood and world that bungie created with them all feeling connected. However if we look at American Dragon the changes in art style between season 1 & 2 compleatly undermined the show and ruined much of the aesthetics of characters for example the design changes to the Huntsman between seasons not only completely ruined his design but also changed his entire atmosphere. With this understanding we can now apply this to LB1 & LB2, the design changes between games are so absolutely fundamental that they don't even feel like the same world everything is redesigned fundamentaly from the ground up in a way that make it seem so far removed from one another that its actually jaring. I understand that one could say certain limitations and changes had to be put into place to make a smooth free roam experience (which im not entirely convinced of) however the level of change seen between these games is more than that. Entire places from the first game are erased such as Gotham Gold reserve or for example Gotham art gallery or the dockyard. As well as that I mentioned the aesthetic changes, now as I said previously if the aesthetic changes were done right and felt connected to LB1 it would be fine but there not. Of course LB2, LB3, Dimensions are very consistent visually as they are in the same canon although there are some changes to Gotham itself visually and as you said the NPC dialogue in Supervillains covers the style change between it and the previous games LB2 - Supervillains canon. Overall my points still stand and I belive LB1 is in a different canon to the other games and that I have provided evidence to prove that.

Another possible reason for the change in Joker could be that between the time for LB1 and dc super villains evidence that contradicts the red hood origin could have appeared

I think the Joker being Redhood and have his identity being shrouded in mystery is possible simply due to the fact that no one knows who he was before he took up that mantle. They could be referring to his true identity not just his alias as the Redhood. Also for the Gotham and Metropolis being combined thing, both those cities were smashed together during the events of Dimensions. And with the 4 year gap between games, you could say they just rebuilt the 2 cites into what they are now.

I think I have an idea why the jokers info is different because the police didn’t know he was red hood so it’s mysterious to them, but Batman knows because he was there. He created him so Batman, but the police would not know

you could argue that, at the very least, there's a split timeline scenario with LEGO Dimensions and LEGO DC Super Villains. In LEGO Dimensions sees Gotham & Metropolis mashed into one city and in LEGO DC Super Villains one of the citizen's lines says they wouldn't mind Gotham and Metropolis being mashed up as they wouldn't have to take a cable car, implying it's never happened before. This would also fit with the fact Dimensions' crossover-laden premise is unlikely to come up in future games. However, as I like continuity I think there are a few ways you could explain this, one being that a few years have passed so the Gothamtropolis incident has faded from memory or that this kinda stuff happens all the time said Metopolis citizen just didn't know about that particular incident. Other explanations that I'm personally not a fan of but could also consider is that restoring the dimensions erased the memories of the Vortech stuff from most of the population (which I don't like cause it's effectively the same as just retconning the game) or that Dimensions is after DC Super Villains (which I don't buy both cause aesthetically it's much more in-line with LEGO Batman 2 & 3 and cause Dimensions uses the Tim Drake Robin while he's Red Robin in DC Super villains).

the comics themselves can't decide if joker's origin is a complete mystery or if he was red hood. at the end of the day it's a kid's game tie-in it bends with the times and current comic continuity, which is why the riddler bio is interesting. as far as im aware he was never a wayne tech employee outside of forever, which is obviously inspiration for the first game. why would they bother to add that detail if it wasn't connected

Dcsv is a great successor to the past games, but is really only cannon to 2 and 3 due to these being part of the dc super heroes line, which Lego Batman was completely standalone and based off the comics and animations at the time. And while all the games are at the end of day, based on other media, the story from 2-dcsv is unique and its cool that a bunch of tid bits from the past story such as brainiacs ship and the deconstructor show up here, ties it all up really well

A few little notes: with the maps being different, in lego DC Supervillains when walking in gotham some pedestrian says "Does gotham look different every couple of years or is it just me?" or something like that (it was last year i 100% the game so i don't really remember) and the character selector looks like files which may just be a design choice but the character biography makes me see it more, I believe that they arent what the bat computer knows but maybe what the police know? maybe because batman knows about redhood but who knows who the person keeping the files know? that last bits just a theory, but that line in the beginning proves that even if this game isn't canon to the previous games, maybe the previous games are canon to it? also in the deathstroke mission deathstroke says that theve worked together before, i don't know if that helps or not but ye.

as far as I'm aware the data entry of the joker being the red hood beforehand is just a reference to the killing joke comic book which was later adapted into a film i also took a look into my DC book collection and I noticed my ooshie collector guide you know those things that go on the bottom of pencils well I read through and the joker's information happens to reference the killing joke comic as well not to mention the killing joke comic came out march of 1988

I really love this game, I don't really know or care much about the marvel stuff, but it feels like a lego-ified saints row 4 with a fantastical comic theme if you primarily play with your custom character. it's great, and I'd love if we could get some more of how the custom character was handled in other lego games, really missed it in the skywalker saga.

I think Harley Quinn went solo for the same reasons she did in the comics, the birds of prey movie and the harley quinn animated show. Joker treated her badly. They probably didn't talk about it explicitly in the games because they didn't want to mention abuse in a game rated 10+.

I don't think the Joker bio is a mistake at all, especially because all the other bios are so good. I think generally TT realized that The Joker overall is a lot more interesting to most people if his origin is kept a mystery and always called into question. You also gotta keep in mind the times when each game came out and how the current fandom saw things. Lego Batman 1 was pretty heavily tied to the animated series, and the animated series likewise was heavily tied to the 89 movie. And both showed very clear cut origins for the Joker, even if he wasn't the red hood in either Yes the red hood is commonly accepted as Joker's previous moniker before his transformation in some way, but even that is up to dispute because the Joker is an inherently contradictory character. For many the appeal of Joker is his "multiple choice" backstory and fractured mind so having a clear cut "okay he was the criminal redhood before chemicals made him the joker" is VERY simple and definitive which simply doesn't align with what people like about The Joker anymore. So no if anything this is an improvement and keeping up with the times.

Think 2 - Villains are canon while Batman 1 is sorta in its own thing, and that's just generally how different how Gotham looks between both games. There's no mention of the league, so I believe Batman 1 is sorta just its own canon.

@comicfan13247 ай бұрын
Personally, I consider Canon. For the designs, I I feel like you can write off different appearances as a stylistic/artistic choice. For example, killer croc started as a mini figure in this series, but ever since Lego Batman three he has been portrayed as a big figure because at that point in big figures came into existence, and the designers figure killer croc should be portrayed that way. Not to mention in some cases, they have to update the character designs to match what the current Lego sets are going for. That’s why Lego Batman three leaned into the new 52 style. This is in the same category as other video games which update their character designs as later games are introduced. Just because Mario is now depicted in a high poly 3-D model doesn’t mean that it’s a different Mario from the classic 8-bit games. As for the lore, I’d say there’s nothing in the game that can’t be explained away. I can easily see this being the progression from the already established Lego Batman game universe. Also, Gotham and Metropolis being right next to each other can easily be explained away with dimensions where they were fused together into one city. They even referenced the name “Gothopolis” from flash’s Lego dimensions side quest.

the joker intel could be explained by the first game being the Batcomputer providing the info and DCSV getting it's info from what we can assume is either a police department or prison records - batman most likley just hadnt shared his discovery with the authorities

1:49 Not really no. Because in Lego Star Wars TCS Anakin and Obi Wan chase Count Dooku and the events of EP2 play out the same as canon. But in Lego Star Wars Clone Wars they just head back to a Republic Cruiser. So that must mean the Lego Clone Wars game isn't even canon to TCS because of that continuity error

For the Joker backstory thing, it doesn't break continuity. In the comics, Batman has always known who Joker was but didn't tell others because it could have people going after his family, so it makes sense that Batman would have the true database. Also Joker has said in muliple instances that he likes to keep his backstory multiple choice, so there can be lots of made-up stories along with conflicting ones.
@RandomRamblings867 ай бұрын
In The killing joke comic joker said that he likes to keep his origin story multiple choice and in the mad Love episode of the new Batman adventures Batman explains to Harley Quinn that the joker tells people his origin but in different ways. This establishes the precedent that the joker tells people his origin but he changes it every time. It could be that in Lego Batman 1 Bruce thought that that was the origin story of The joker but over the years he found that joker was an unreliable narrator so he had no sure way of knowing for sure what his true origin is.
