Thanks for the resources! When I was a young dealer (80’s/90’s) I used to buy Art & Auction magazine which had great coverage of the auction scene. Haven’t seen it for years but I think it’s still in print, though with the internet now, not sure how valuable it is.

Invaluable recommendations, thank you. I might also add Great Art Explained for in-depth art history lessons.

My obsession with making art naturally spills over into finding out what else is going on. I really appreciate you putting this video together.

@@christopherwestpresents I feel so lucky to live right now. There is so much amazing art being made. Although I paint realistically, I love all kinds of art. Granted, there's still plenty of crap being made, but that's always been the case.

@@philcourtney7831 so true. But the more you look, the easier it is to wade through the crappy stuff!

@@christopherwestpresents A different topic. Although I'm not at well none artist. The Internet kind of blew up when I posted to self portrait oil paintings side by side. I did one when I was 21 and one when I was 71. 50 years apart. Huge arguments broke out online about whether one style is better than the other the later style. The older self portrait is very realistic some said hyper realistic. Don't care for that term, but... Also arguments started whether the one painting was actually a photograph or made by AI. AI is a new one this year. As of now I have over 150,000 likes and over 2000 comments on the two side-by-side self portraits. Even Jerry Saltz liked three of myself portraits on my Instagram. In the end, I don't think this will do much of anything for my art career, but it was crazy. @philcourtneyartwork .

Great video and warning! Legacy media are as trustworthy on art topics as they are on virtually any other topic. I tossed my television decades ago and refuse to have one in my house.

Great video. I subscribed to a few of the KZbinrs and podcasts you recommended. One that you didn't mention that I like is great art explained. His videos are nice long form information about famous artists and their work.

You’re totally right! I’ve watched a ton of those videos but for some reason had never subscribed. I am now!

Not really news, but Tateshots by the Tate Gallery has some nice historical pieces covering big names of the last 20 years. And…No commercials!

@@christopherwestpresents I wondered if you could do a video on Christie’s and Sotheby’s, and maybe their history or why certain clients choose which auction house? Also maybe a video on the top 10 most expensive paintings sold at auction. Would love to hear your opinions on them ☺️
