Keeping Ariana's ad lib vocals at the beginning would've worked. The intro feels a little incomplete without it. Adjust the levels when mixing the tracks so the Be My Baby instrumental doesn't ride over Mariah's vocals so prominently. It would've been cool to see where you might mix Ariana's Bb5 belt climax in the background around 3:18 "be my baby (be my!)" 3:19 I see what you were going for there, but submerging Mariah's iconic vocals subtracts more than it adds.

I think they opted to keep it out because of the pitch; the "Be My Baby" instrumental was pitched down, so if they kept Ariana's vocals, they might have sounded a little strange. Agreed though, with pro-pitching, that would be an amazing concept.
