War reporters risk their lives to document conflict. And yet, after a career living on battlefields, Sebastian Junger’s closest brush with death was surviving an aneurysm.
Sebastian’s story of his sudden internal hemorrhage and making sense of what he saw while dying is the subject of his new book In My Time of Dying. As someone who usually writes as an outside observer, it’s an atypical and personal exploration of death.
I was privileged to speak with Sebastian about the fragility of life and why being necessary to others is one of our highest needs of all.
This…is A Bit of Optimism.

What a fantastic message. To be necessary is to hold yourself to the highest standards. To be trusted, to be interdependent, to be loved. To defend our neighbor as family is immeasurable. To live a selfless life, to support your home so you can support others outside of it is honorable. To be bestowed honor through acts of integrity, of kindness, of humility, is to know the deepest kind of love.

This is great I recently read "Tribe" as recommended by a friend. I'm 39, no siblings and by 32 my grandparents and parents were gone and I've been effectively deserted by most of my extended family. I have had to dig deep into concepts like death (including my own thanks to a couple near misses) and being of service in order to regain any sense of belonging or meaning in this world. Sinek and Junger is a super powerful combination. Glad you made this happen 🙏🏼

In this video, I appreciate that Simon knows when NOT to speak. It helps Sebatiian's story shine. So many vidcasts hosts can't/dont know how to listen. Last 5 minutes of this 🤯

Understanding and discussing near-death experiences and the essence of leading a meaningful life with honor is crucial in today's society. In our busy lives, especially in relationships, we often overlook the importance of truly seeing and hearing our loved ones. This interview is a wonderful opportunity to remind us all to say to our dear ones, "I see you, I hear you, I'm with you." Thank you to everyone involved for the great conversations and teamwork that made this interview possible.

I like to think there is life after death and I know there is. In my teenage years I often would go out look at the sky and say if God your real somehow let me know through signs or somehow do I know you exist. He did believe it or not. When you ago sincerely from your heart God delivers. So I made a promise to myself that I will never question of existence of most high God. 🙏
