Very cool song. Kind of reminded me of the end of the night in an old time saloon. Kind of muted lighting with smoke. Nice job.

I can picture this… the bartender just did last call and there’s enough time for one final song. The singer asks “Any requests before we all get the boot??” She looks about the dimly lit saloon, and a low voice calls back “Be still my Aching Heart!” 😁

@@Lijie yes exactly! Like a scene from Barfly with Tom Waits.

"Hello, hello. don't know why you say goodbye. I say hello" Some one said that once. seems contrary wise, now. I hope no offence was taken. A song about a broken heart has the hook built in. This was pleasant to listen to. It could work.

I have long loved your work. While I write a lot in my job, I am definitely no song writer, so take my input for what it is worth (not much). In regard to storytelling, using "...I was yours...", "sorry that he wasn't the one...", then "...any more than you can change me..." left me unsure as to if you (in the role of the one breaking up) was communicating to him, us, or yourself. I know many song writers like to leave interpretation up to the listener and I will definitely listen to this wonderful song. The interruption that I'll have is the first part (first 1:30 min) is sadly saying goodbye to the other person because of things within you (not necessarily them) that you cannot control. And the second part is self-reflection and regretting the sorrow within yourself, which is what makes it so much more impactful than average break up songs. I am sooo uncomfortable saying this because it is as if I am attacking your child, but when in my mind I change "he wasn't the one" to "you weren't the one" it makes a powerful contrast for "Oh how I hate to say goodbye"...the first being kind of standard break up words to him, the last use a confession to yourself as to how it causes turmoil and pain that you cannot control leading to true introspection. PLEASE ignore, even delete, my comment if I misread the intent of your song.

Steve hi! At first, i thought it would be playful to write a witty and somewhat sarcastic reply (as a joke, of course!). But the interesting thing about *Reading* sarcasm, is that it doesn't land quite right. So i'll just say it straight, THANK YOU for your attentive, thoughtful analysis of the song lyrics!! Your notes make sense. I appreciate your input, and am humbled you cared enough to listen so carefully to the lyrics. So THANK YOU again 🙏❤️

@@Lijie Love your work! I also appreciate sarcastic humor as well...I grew up on Monty Python. When I lived in Japan, I learned how much sarcasm depends not on the words but on tone. And that only comes across in person, and then only if they understand tonal changes. Keep being our music maker!! 🙂

I love the lyrics, I don,t want to sound negative, I hope I don,t offend you. But you sounded Alittle nervous an not that confident, maybe as you sing it more you.ll get more relaxed and find that confidence I hear in your other songs, I know how good you are so I know you are capable of it. Don.t give up, you do have a beautiful voice and you have tremendous talent. It,s always a joy to see you and hear you Lejie. Sorry for your broken heart, hope I didn.t make it worse, i.m only trying to help you reach your goal. Hope you.re not offended, love GENE
