Be still, my soul, The Lord is on thy side Bear patiently, the cross of grief or pain Leave to thy God, to order and provide In every change, He faithful will remain Be still, my soul, thy best thy heavenly friend Through thorny ways, leads to a joyful end Be still, my soul, thy God doth undertake To guide the future as He has the past Thy hope, thy confidence, let nothing shake All now mysterious shall be bright at last Be still, my soul, the waves and wind still know His voice who ruled them while He dwelt below In You I rest, in You I found my hope In You I trust, You never let me go I place my life within Your hands alone Be still, my soul Be still, my soul, the hour is hastening on When we shall be forever with the Lord When disappointment, grief and fear are gone Sorrow forgot, love's purest joys restored Be still, my soul, when change and tears are past All safe and blessed, we shall meet at last In You I rest, in You I found my hope In You I trust, You never let me go I place my life within Your hands alone Be still, my soul In You I rest, in You I found my hope In You I trust, You never let me go I place my life within Your hands alone Be still, my soul Be still, my soul Be still, my soul

Me too. But you also have to include hundreds of hours of personal practice, memorizing and ensemble training. They make it look and sound easy. it is horrendously difficult. It is not magic. It is HARD work. Sanjosemike (no longer in CA)

Of all the interpretations of this piece that I have heard, this is by far the most beautiful and most inspiring I have ever heard. This has long been one of my favorite pieces of music to sing, and it was very gratifying to add my voice to your mix and enjoy how good you guys make me sound. :) Your interpretation is magical. Thank you for your music and for sharing your gifts with us here. I just discovered you last fall, and when I did I immediately ordered two of your CDs and gave them as christmas gifts to my lady. She was as appreciative of your talents as I am. I hope I get to hear a lot more of you folks before I start pushing up daisies.

I just looked the score up and it turns out the guy who wrote this arrangement is a HIGH SCHOOL senior. Mad impressive.
@joshjones66743 жыл бұрын
@@acbulgin2 It says it is a setting of Sibelius' Finlandia.

It is Finlandia. Not some High school guy's attempt at fame.
@katywest3 жыл бұрын
The tune, yes. However this particular arrangement of Finlandia was done by a high schooler
@chiachtung3 жыл бұрын
@@beldengi But why be no nasty about it? My chamber choir sang this arrangement and were super impressed a MN Senior managed to create this beautiful arrangement (as we're a Minnesota-based group). Why not celebrate young artists in a time when we need the arts so desperately? Yes, the original is also a fantastic classic, but there's no need to discredit this arrangement on a video that showcases it.
@bobmallory88282 жыл бұрын
@@beldengi I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you don't really know much about music. There is a difference between a composer (original "author" of a piece of music) and an arranger who changes things such as harmony, tempo, etc. to change the overall impact. Just listen to a couple of different videos of Finlandia and you can find subtle differences, including completely different lyrics

I’m there with that bass line. Matheson I think knows he was a channel, a ‘hollow reed’ transmitting what was given to him. I don’t believe great art is ever ‘made’ only the person is found that gives expression to it. May all who pursue callings rest in this. Oh, and practice like mad.

If I had a wish of what I wanted VOCES8 to perform it would be this list: 1. Moonlight Sonata - Beethoven (I don't think he will mind) 2. Top Gun opening theme - off vocal (no versed vocals, just the backing music to the vocals) for example listen to: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nZPcoIGorKaSfc0 3. The Little Old Lady (From Pasadena) by Jan Berry with Don Altfeld and Roger Christian; recorded about 1964 by pop singers, Jan & Dean - recording quality not very good so musical interpretation will be challenged as to how to produce and execute to VOCES8 standard. [In my opinion, all recordings heard of this song are too slow thus making it a boring listening session - VOCES8 can bring some life and fun encore type song]

Beautiful and inspiring. Worth noting that the words were written by a German pietist lady in the 17th century. The music is part of Sibelius' Finlandia, a hymn challenging Russian oppression of Finland at the time. Matheson only did the arrangement!!
