My darling husband died almost 5 years ago, after 33 wonderful years together. 2 years ago, I met Andrew, a widower who had also had a loving marriage. After almost 3 years on my own (he had been on his own for 8 years) We had both proved that we could be ok on our own. We met through a mutual friend. It was a slow burn at first, but after a few months, we fell in love. I’m 60 and he’s almost 70. We’re both young at heart and have lots in common. The best part is that we make each other laugh every day. Whatever time we have left will be spent loving and respecting one another. I feel so truly blessed. ❤️

@ I’m still working. I’m a pro singer who’s had a pretty good career. You can view a video of me by typing in Jackie X Factor 2018. Nowadays I spend my time singing mostly for the elderly in carehomes, which is incredibly rewarding. I’d marry my man in a heartbeat, but we’re taking it one day at a time.

Love is not a choice. One cannot choose or unchoose it because it's not a cognitive entity. It's an emotion. Emotion is defined as the 'irrational"--it doesn't originate from the mind, but from the heart & sometimes from the soul. Perhaps some folks are incapable of feeling, or are so confused they cannot return to a natural state. Does a human consciously choose to feel one thing or another? No. We're hardwired to feel a variety of emotions. Look to the young ones who have not yet been schooled. (Our state of knowledge is primitive, but currently we are told the limbic system is responsible for emotion. It's believed it's the older part of the brain vs the cerebral cortex that is the seat of the intellect. Yes there's interplay, but if you're deciding who you love, you're not actually loving at all. You're thinking.)

Love is an action, not an emotion or feeling. Love is a choice. You can have loving feelings toward someone, but you can choose to act in a loving way toward someone even if you don't have loving feelings. Feelings go away, and the strength of those feelings can fluctuate. But that doesn't mean you have to change the way you act toward that person based on how strong those feelings are.

@SandraBrixey obviously, I disagree. As you say, one can act in loving manner towards someone or something, regardless of how one feels towards them. That is very different from feeling love for someone. Love is not a choice, unfortunately. It's a feeling. Conversely, our behaviors are what we choose. Our behaviors can be willfully, cognitively, controlled regardless of our feelings. We can act in a loving manner towards someone without actually feeling love for them.

I can tell she lets you be you.i understand as a creative its much needed!! She sounds just happy to be with you and visa versa. All in. Means to me your kids your grandkids. Your elderly parents...lucky my problems are less but get worse in midlife. I might just go for the 20 somethings with no extras. I'm weirdly low maintenance in that way but not meeting anyone in my age group that isn't. Also realising people this age are single for a reason so definitely look within. Everyone.

I've been dating a guy for the past 5 months. I'll have to move to another country for an academic term, so we'll be away for 4-5 months. I don't have any other chance than to leave cause I have to attend a lecture and this wasn't planned so came as a surprise. Everything is going well regarding the relationship but I don't know how things will be after I move. He'll be visiting me once a week or once every two weeks. How can I continue having a good relationship with him even though we'll be living far away? It's 5 hours by car. He's 45 and I'm 29
