【TIERRA...TIERRA】

[TIERRA...TIERRA]
D. Luzuriaga is a contemporary composer born and raised in a rural area in southern Ecuador.
This work is a virtuoso duet dedicated to two flute players, A. Nicolet and R. Aitken.
"TIERRA" is a Spanish word meaning "earth, land, field, soil, hometown, etc."
The work was written based on the composer's own original experience of "hearing the enchanting sound of a flute with an earthy and primitive sound in a small town in Ecuador as a child."
Using three instruments, the piccolo, flute, and alto flute, the piece expresses "wind" by using a special technique of mixing breath and voice into the tone, and a rolling technique.
The "rhythmic elements" are strongly seen in the "rapid 16th note beats" that are persistently repeated from the middle of the piece, and the animalistic excitement continues to grow and is released as the piece ends.
