June Whitfield was absolutely fabulous as Miss Marple in Agatha Christie radio plays. She was so good in the radio plays that I think she, with just her voice, created the definitive Miss Marple.

I never knew these two met, June is a UK TV legend! and I also never heard Bea talk about Brighton Belles either - such a bad show, not the actresses (who were all very talented). Amazing to see these two sitcom legends chatting about their work! marvellous after all these years.

Decades ago and I am definitely not a professional actor, I found being cast in the dramatic role so much easier for me. The majority of the time, I was cast in the comedic role. I personally felt ill at ease and could not sense timing in the least. My very first Broadway musical, "Into the Woods" I saw back in 1988 with Joanna Gleason in it. I was totally blown away with how gifted she was with comic timing and for me she really made that show come alive. Not at all downplaying the other actors at all, who were all great. It is she just made a huge impression on me. If I had taken acting lessons, perhaps I could have improved somewhat and felt more comfortable in getting the sense of "timing" that June talks about. These two actresses were such a gift to the entertainment world.

@heatherr04202 жыл бұрын
It would be an American cast doing a British show like absolutely fabulous for example. It just wouldn't work. I feel the same way. I watch a British comedy it's British actors doing British humor and I absolutely love it. I think Ms Whitfield hit it right on the head
@jwb52z92 жыл бұрын
It's a good thing that American actors never tried to remake AbFab. It would have turned out literally trashy instead of funny trashy. As an American myself, I don't think any American actors that I've ever seen can do funny mixed with inappropriate and come out with other Americans recognizing both and not being offended.

I think Brighton Belles failed because we'd already seen the same scripts performed in The Golden Girls. It was just as huge a show in the UK as it was in the USA, so we'd already seen it all before.
@MarthaMansbridge3 жыл бұрын
Agree - Golden Girls went off air in 1992, Brighton Belles was 1993 - it was too soon and the scripts just didn’t work as they were almost entirely unchanged - the cast was talented! Sheila Hancock, Sheila Gish, Wendy Craig and Jean Boht - some real acting/comedy pedigree there. I know Bea was not impressed by the lack of creativity of the BB but even she starred in an ill fated Fawlty Towers re-hash - Amanda’s By The Sea - same issue - just didn’t translate well.
@JenGCYYC2 жыл бұрын
How did they get away with stealing the scripts?
@medicinaemdia4895 Жыл бұрын
You can’t just copy and paste the same script and have a new series. There were so many tries that never happened to work out. Days like that, as That 79’s show. There was another “British version of Married with Children that lasted for less than a season.
