Great video. I am dying to do this trip. Two questions, how were the bugs at that time, and do you think a Winnebago Ekko 4x4 will be okay in that sand? Thanks in advance for the advice. Oh and how cold was the water in May?
@DanWeinel16 күн бұрын
Hey Neil! Thanks for watching! Bugs are always hit or miss. The earlier you go the better, and during this trip the bugs weren’t bad at all. The weather was about as perfect as you could ask for. As far as the EKKO goes, I’ve seen loads of 4x4 vans out there. Just make sure you know what you’re doing driving in the sand. There’s a “road” that runs most of the island so you’ll be fine there but once you go past the dunes it can get pretty loose. Shovels and Maxtrax are a good thing to have with you. Now for the water, it really wasn’t terrible. Cold for sure but bearable if you want it to be lol Cheers man!

Beautiful. I was just there in April. Is May nicer? It was beautiful when I was there but jeeez the WIND Blew 50 mph for 3 days straight
@DanWeinel6 ай бұрын
Over the years we’ve found May tends to be a bit more predictable weather wise. It’s a barrier island though so weather there changes so fast. We got hit with a pretty gnarly storm our last night there. Winds were probably in the 40-45mph range

@@DanWeinel good to know Ya I got hit with a doozy of a storm too in April. How’d the tents hold up for you?
@DanWeinel6 ай бұрын
@@Treetopflyer777 tents held up fine, awnings were put away when the storms started rolling in. It rocked me back and forth pretty good but nothing major. I had my windows open when it hit, that was my biggest problem lol I’ve had my camper open in 55mph winds (woke up to it in the middle of the night) and didn’t have a problem other than the truck shaking violently.
