I've often read: bright light, clear water, use lightest colors (eg silver bead); low light, off color water, use darker colors (eg copper or darker bead). Do I disremember something? A smart experienced fisherman like you is not likely to be wrong, so my opinion now is tending to, it doesn't make any difference or there is no rule. Or a copper bead is really no darker than a silver one? Or ......?

Fish in fast water like that are less selective, and the flash of a silver bead can sometimes trigger reaction bites.

Black, copper, pink, subtle colours for clear water, silver, gold, orange for coloured water. Bright day bright fly, dull days dull fly has been thrown around for ever. Least here in Scotland. ATB
