The opportunities to be a specialist in Irish general practice are growing.
The Irish College of General Practitioners now offers a range of Research Fellowships for recently graduated GPs who are interested in academic general practice.
These Fellowships enable GPs to combine academic research with frontline general practice.
Dr Orla McDonnell works as a GP in Kinsale Medical in Cork, as well as being a Research Fellow in her local university.
This is just one of many opportunities available to GPs in Ireland.
