Please reply ma'am. Nd solve it Madam, I have been researching on Beale's method for quite a long time. But because of the ambiguity in the algorithm of various authors and research papers, the concept could not be cleared. I have consulted OP books by JK Sharma, S.Sinha, Kantiswarup, Natrajan, SB Sharma, etc of Macmilan, Pearson, SChand etc. Unfortunately all your videos illustrated sums of Beale's method which are solved examples in these books. I would be very grateful if you kindly solve this unsolved example of Beale's method. Its a question of IAS 2004 and Bharthiar Univ, Coimbatore Msc 2000. But i am unable to get the answer. Please please ma'am help me out by solving it. The question is: Max. 2x_1 + 3x_2 -2(x_2)^2 s.t x_1+4x_2

at 13:11 why we replace x4 with basic variable x1 ??? i mean why not with x2 ?

Hello @Utkarsh Kapoor Actually , x2 will become negative only for negative value of x4 So we will not opt for this . Feel free to post your queries Good night

r u trying to say that we will have to choose that equation which will give greater value of x4 ,, coz if take equation involving x2 and x4 then it gives x4=1 ??? just wanna confirm this ,,plz reply

First point x2 = 1-x3+x4 See in this equation if v put x3 = 0 X2=1+x4 So only negative value of x4 can make x2 as negative . But we have to only accept positive value for a variable , it means greater than zero. So x2 can not be replaced x1 will be replaced. ( The statement is : largest value of x4 can attain with out deriving the basic variable negative.)

Second point If we check both equations that is for x1 and x2 We get values if x4 as 4 and 1 So we go for x1 . I hope now your doubts are clear

yeah i got it,,,, so suppose somehow if we get x4=1 in the equation involving x2 and we get x4=4 in the equation involving x1 ,,, so then we will have to choose greater value i.e 4 ,,, is this u r trying to say ???

Yes Thanks for feedback it should be (8+ x3 - 2x4) But I have written ( 1+ x3- 2x4).

The correct answer is x_1=0, x2=3/4 please solve it madam

I have solved this same question by wolfe method but the answer is different in actual its actual answer is x1= 5/16 and x2= 59/64 now I ll solved with beale's method
