The portrayal of Gigi Wu, the Bikini Hiker, in this video is really unfair. She did her hiking with appropriate gear, only briefly changing into a bikini to pose for a photo. She did not do her hikes wearing the bikini, and she was fully clothed when she was found. She died of a tragic accident, not of stupidity. I feel its important to get this message out, as many media outlets have been reporting the story incorrectly and she is getting globally shamed over things she didn't actually do.
@schadenfreude3236 Жыл бұрын
The representation here may not have been fair, but she still did at least two stupids: 1) she didn't have a hiking partner, which you should ALWAYS have, and 2) whether she was in a bikini or not is really kind of arbitrary since she still failed to have the correct gear to stay appropriately warm in case of an emergency. She was willingly and actively participating in a hobby that regularly kills even the most experienced people, which is pretty stupid unto itself. It's one thing to put yourself at risk doing necessary things, like driving to the grocery store, but wandering off alone into a frigid wilderness that claims a dozen people a year is pretty high on the list of not-so-smart moves. What she did was the equivalent of a skydiver not having a backup chute and no jump partner to cling to or a deep sea diver not having an emergency air canister or dive partner to breathe off of during ascent.

I heard about the bikini hiker. She was apparently an experienced hiker who had made her way up over 100 mountains in full hiking gear before changing into a bikini at the top to snap a photo. It's said that there's no indication of if she was wearing a bikini when she fell or if wearing a bikini had anything to do with her death. Also, the rescue team she called for didn't have her coordinates and attempted a rescue on foot. Weather turned bad and 43 hours later, they finally found her frozen body.

So a man designed a bronze bull that was heated up cooking the person alive inside. The reason why it reminds me of that story was because the bull was designed to make the screams of the person inside sound like an actual bull. The closest to a dumb ways to die story I have happened to a cousin of my husband. His family was having problems getting along. He'd threatened to kill himself to get the family back together, but never had any plans to carry it out. He frequently took trips to Europe, and had one coming up when he decided to go for a hike alone and not telling anyone else. Well, that was the last thing he ever did. His family ended out hiring a private investigator to try to find him, but for nearly a year, there was no sign of him. Then his body was found. It was identified as being him from the ID and some belongings in the backpack, which also had some food and other survival stuff. What had happened is he got too close to the edge of a cliff and it crumbled. He broke his back in the fall, and since he was alone, there was nobody to get help. And because he didn't tell anyone what he was doing, there was nobody looking for him until it was too late. RIP Luke

The drinking hand sanitizer one reminded me of something incredibly idiotic a couple of my friends did in elementary school. Don't worry, they survived with nothing more than temporary numbness in the mouth. Anyway, the two saw a bottle of Germ-X strawberry-scented hand sanitizer and asked themselves 'Does this taste like strawberry, too?' It didn't. It only numbed their tongues and parts of their mouths for a while, during which everyone laughed their butts off at their idiocy while the teacher sighed and facepalmed in exasperation. It was funny because they only tasted what must've been a couple of drops in comparison to the idiots in this video who drank it. 18:52 - This reminded me of one of my grandpa's stories. My grandpa and a friend of his found an unexploded 152 mm Soviet artillery shell in the forest while hunting for mushrooms in the 1950's. They had a dilema. They wanted to call the demolitionists but my grandpa was the only one who knew the way and they didn't want to leave the shell lying unguarded. Also my grandpa's friend had a fear of wild hogs so he didn't want to stay alone. There were some kids in the area who regularly played in the forest so their reluctance to leave the shell unsuperwised was warranted. So my grandpa reached into his pocket and found a roll of jute twine and told his friend he had an idea. They very carefully lifted the shell up and carried it deep into the forest to the thickest oak they could find. Grandpa threw the twine over the strongest branch then he tied up the shell with one end of the twine. Thankfully there was more than enough string on the roll so they could retreat to a safe distance inside a ditch. There my grandpa and his friend started to slowly and carefully hoist up the shell and when it was sufficiently high, they released the rope. There was a police investigation conducted to discover who bombed the forest, but nothing turned up. While sitting in a bar with his friends, the one who was with him in the forest included were asked by a policeman as well. Both of them said "WHAT?" real loudly since they lost their hearing for 2 weeks after the explosion. The cop was suspicious but my grandpa's friends told him that these two were picking mushrooms nearby when it went off and they can't hear crap. While their alibi was essentially true it is probably more reasonable to assume the only reason these rascals were not aprehended was that my grandpa was friends with pretty much most cops in town including the one who interviewed them. Funnily, there was no hearing-loss. Even at an old age, my grandpa usually just pretended to be partially deaf because he liked to annoy people with it. He lived for 84 years, would turn 97 this April. I think it pays to listen to our grandparents. Some of their stories are crazy! :D

I miss hearing my Grandpa's old stories 😢 It was certainly a different time back then. Some of the things he experienced would be unheard of in today's society but it was considered "normal" at the time. I recall him telling me about getting 30 days furlough from WWII. He was brought to the East coast of Canada, then he had to travel by train to Western Canada to get home. The thing is, train travel took 12 days each way. He ended up spending less than a week actually at home. The rest of his furlough was eaten up by travel time. The traveling conditions were less than ideal to put it mildly. Grandpa did have a room on the train, but he had to share it with 2 other soldiers who were also traveling to Western Canada. And there was only 1 bed! 🤦♂️ So they took turns each night. 1 guy slept in the bed. 1 guy slept on the table. 1 guy slept on the floor. Apparently that was "normal" back then. And I suppose a person could have complained but they probably wouldn't get too far... (Oh? You don't like it? 🙄 Well that's too bad for you! That's the way it goes. Take it or leave it! But hurry up and decide. Because if you don't want to take it, there's plenty of other men who will gladly take your place 🙏🏻 Do you want this furlough or not?)

Even without the freezing it can cause fluid to build up in the lungs and drown you in your own fluids. Some mums believe that drinking a certain amount of bleach every day cures autism and they therefore give it to their autistic children . NUTS ! And inhumane!
@ruthgiles89264 ай бұрын
That probably arises from the completely debunked association between vaccines and autism that is the basis for so many idiotic and scarily ignorant claims about vaccines now. The scarily ignorant therefore think that autism is an infectious disease caused by some kind of organism that can be killed by disinfectants like bleach. Now people would find them and want to keep them but wanted the rust removed. A lot of these balls were filled with black powder and since I worked in a machine shop we seen a lot of them that people desired to have cleaned. We would not touch them and we were directed to contact EOD. They would x Ray the balls and most were harmless and solid but a few were hollow and filled with grapeshot. An elderly man part of our tour group, but not our school refused to drink from em. Saying "that's disgusting! I paid too much money to be drinking from a street fountain like some homeless bum!" There was a dude who decided he would try and make liquor out of hand sanitizer using a dryer, a sock, salt, a water bottle, and a bottle of Purell. He ended up getting himself and one other hospitalized, the entire battery put on a form of lockdown, and made us not be allowed to have salt packets when it came time to have chow. Both ended up surviving, but barely. The one who "distilled" the alcohol ended up getting court martialed while still in basic training of all places. Desperate shit, I guess...

Alcohol was banned for a while in Mexico after COVID started. So people tried ways to get alcohol... Some hand sanitizers were definitely safe to drink (well, as safe as alcohol). Others weren't. Poisonings like that happened all over the world. Much easier to brew your own booze, which is very easy if you have the yeast (to make beer), and certain types don't even need yeast (there's one you can make with leftover pineapple skin and sugar...). You do need to test pH to make sure you don't get botulism though.

Priest: “DRINK BLEACH TO CLEANSE YOURSELF OF YOUR SINS!” Congregation Members: “Sounds Right.” Me, an atheist: “Noted...”

I am pretty sure no religion would teach you to purposefully harm yourself for the sake of faith. So I think people do this to make themselves feel like a god that is able to influence others.

@@daniellevi7012 but mostly cage you by controlling your thought process and moves, and force you to make time for your "religion" ignoring the fact of your body's physical limit right?

im religious or whatever, but if my priest told me to drink bleach, i was just gonna leave. god gave me brains and im gonna use it. this is why i mostly just stay home and pray by myself

@@sorashou6229 You're a hundred percent right. Religion isn't a bad thing. As somebody once said: "religion is like a penis. It's good to have one, it's good to be proud of it, but when you go outside and shove it in everybody's face..." You wouldn't masturbate for hours on end, just because somebody told you that's a way to prove yourself. Not the penis's fault, probably that person's fault. I'm going to stop talking now, as I have probably grossed you out. I'm sorry, I just really wanted to use that quote...

Yup. He'd gone back to the cabbage soup diet craze of the 1950s.

A friend of my sister got drunk with his college friends and they decided to try sliding down the stair rails on an 8 story spiral staircase. I don't know what floor he was on when he fell into the central opening, but he became paralyzed from the waist down. Some paraplegics can still reproduce, so he may or may not have won the Darwin award. Poor guy, but he still liked to go dancing with us! Even in a wheelchair, he had some moves.

Ah yes college. Where the purportedly more intelligent go to be educated . Many of the Darwin Awards are from these centres of excellence. Don't put your daughter's in the dorms Mrs Worthington, it's worse than the Stage.
