The nets to catch the plastic was probably the most important advancement - nice and simple. The most aesthetically pleasing - was the glow in the dark bike road. Mate, that stuff is beautiful and fantastic.

I too like the glow in the dark road idea but why stop with bike lanes, why not even full roads themselves? Then perhaps the bike lanes could simply be a different color . Seems to me that it would maybe cut out the need for streetlights in those places . Oh wow another place that it could be used is people's driveways. I would love that for my own drive way and can you imagine if it were to come in an array of different color options . Wow how pretty . Just think of it. Neighborhoods and their differently colored driveways all lit up at night. Some may think it a crazy idea but I think it sounds cool. What do you think?

@@karenhilton1821 Well one is resources. It would take a TON of that material they used to get it everywhere. Just bike lanes is fine because they aren't as huge as full roads. And even then, they'd have to stop a whole road to re-pave it with the new material and people HATE when a road is closed down especially if it's one they take very often. It would take a shit-ton of time and material for them to do that. So I understand why they don't do full roads just yet or ever. It would cost way too much as well if you got it in your driveway.

Several buildings in my city have been doing vertical gardens for a number of years. They even place different types of plants in patterns or to spell out the name of the building. And they don't have to water it much, they just diverted the rain collection on the roof to water the gardens instead of having it go down the gutters.

There are so many great ideas here. I think the LED lights that stretch for drivers would be great and stop a lot of accidents. Even if at first they could only be put in the busiest parts of each city/town. Also having plant life grow up large buildings would do more than cool the building for cheaper, it would increase the oxygen. Large cities need to have at least one side of the large building growing plants. Just by adding some cross cross patterns of wood with plant life, even flowers, would help the air so much.

We seriously need to get some of those LED traffic light poles here in the States. As a professional driver, I come across a lot a lights that are blocked by overgrown vegetation, or perhaps covered in snow, or even foggy/rainy/snowing conditions. I know those LED light poles will definitely save some lives, not to mention some racked nerves. There have been several times where I had to franticly stop 40 tons of rolling steel, really wondering if I was going to be able to make it, because a traffic light was not sufficiently visible. Merely judging by the size of other motorists eyes, I think they would probably agree.

They also have a way of paving the streets with recycled glass blocks that, additionally, can be both back lit and heated to remove ice/snow which would drain into the drainage systems which would also be using the recycled glass bricks. In the US, there are so many large vehicles on the streets and roadways that having better lit signal lights and lamp posts, as well as sensors which can tell when larger vehicles are obscuring visibility to smaller vehicles and send a message to the smaller vehicle of what's ahead. It could be displayed on a screen in the car. I think that would be useful to tame traffic a little. It would certainly help me not cuss the witless twits driving like it's the first time they got into a motorised vehicle.

@kaberlini3 жыл бұрын
In Berlin it's always been a feature as long as I can think of. There was a traffic light nearby where I always had to wait for minutes whenever there was a bus at the bus stop nearby. Because the bus would automatically communicate to the pedestrian traffic light to not become green (as the bus was too close to it - the system would 'believe' that the bus was soon gonna cross the street). Usually, the bus drivers would have shift turns at that specific stop. So whenever I would stand there and see that there was a bus at the stop + there was a shift turn, I would cross the street somewhere else. XD

Probably a joke, but just in case this is a serious concern: Traffic signal preemption requires giving the time for traffic to clear in the conflicting directions, including pedestrian traffic (time for a person with a mobility disability to safely cross). In the bus scenario the preemption would be applied to one bus, switching to the next possibly without authorizing a pedestrian cycle. Also the preemption should be a hierarchy: 1) Train, which is too heavy to stop. 2) Emergency vehicle running code (lights/sirens), where a few seconds delay can mean life or death. 3) Public transit (light rail, bus), increasing efficiency of transportation systems.

I would expect Japanese subways to be among the cleanest in the world.
@fashiondiva69724 жыл бұрын
Um, is someone draining that water and cleaning the tub between people using it? That would take pretty significant time considering the entire tub is a single trough and before anyone new could use it the whole thing would have to be emptied, disinfected and refilled. That’s very inefficient. Having lived in Japan for several years I know what to expect in terms of cleanliness but I also know efficiency is much more highly prized than any sanitation issue. The odds of me sticking my feet in a train water trough are the same as my spouting wings and flying to my destination.

When I was flying out of Houston Hobby airport a few months ago, I noticed that in the parking garage, there were LED lights above each parking space to tell you if it was occupied or not. The lights was red the spaces were full and green if they weren't. That made finding one a lot easier. That's a pretty genius and simple invention that should be found in every parking garage.

Don't they already have something to change lights?
@Jansku11114 жыл бұрын
@@Ravencos I don't think they have, but ambulances can just drive from red lights and everyone else has to let them go first if they have sirens on. That is even taught in driving schools... But buses take longer time to stop and start moving after stopping, so not having to stop would save time and make more people want to go with a bus, instead of going with a car, reducing the co2 emissions...

I've been talking about Smart Streetlights for years now, and I'm glad some has already made them (even 3+ years ago). It not only reduces electricity bills (even tho most streetlights are LED, it still adds up), but will also reduce light pollution, being both better for the health but also great for star gazers
