Laura, thank you! You are brilliant. What an elegantly simple way to warp by oneself. As I watched, I looked at the ceiling and there is a perfect place to install a hook-- and it can double as a plant hanger when not being used to warp, You just simplified my weaving life a lot.

Wow, Laura, that was wonderful to see. Thank you. I'll have to try this valet setup.

I can only echo the others' comments! I am very visual & seeing the method is really helpful for me. I know how I've struggled with this step. Thanks again Laura!

I pull the slack to the side of the lease sticks away from the loom. The lease sticks will help hold the loose threads under some tension. If worse comes to worst, and the yarn will allow it, I brush the warp chain lightly to pull any loose threads as far away from the loom as possible.

I don't have this type of loom and don't do this style of weaving, BUT, it makes a lot more sense to me now. I have a better understanding of this process when I speak to my guild mates. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

Brilliant idea! Thank you for sharing. I have a Schacht sectional beam floor loom. Would this method work for me? It would be helpful to have visual aids of how you support/hang the wood dowel.

LauraAnn~Thank you so much for the video! You are an absolute Genius!!! I have had my Union 36 loom for a while making rugs! I recently bought an 8 harness Mountain loom & really didn't want to buy a raddle! You just saved me a hunt for more supplies Thank you! I really want to make towels & table cloths ! Do you recomend any patterns or suppliers of the cotton??? Thanks again for the wonderful tutorial! Tessa~~~ A new weaver!

I'm using gallon fabric softener jugs (Woodwards, so you *know* how old they are!) ;^) They are about half full. Doug got some lathe from the hardware store, sanded them, drilled holes (although I don't use the holes, just tape the sticks together) and applied a light finish of some sort. My lease sticks are wider than usual because of making the sheds to transfer the cross. Wider sticks mean larger shed. I have sticks in several lengths for different width warps.

Thanks sooooo much for the video! I've read all your posts re the valet ...but seeing the video puts it all together Thanks! Could you tell me what is the amount of water you have in the bleach jug? And my lease sticks are all 5 feet long so kinda sloppy to work with. Do you know somewhere I can get used lease sticks that are narrow like yours when I beam towel warps?

Laura, could you add pictures of the warping vault? I want to make one like yours for my loom but I don't have pictures of how you put yours together on the ceiling.

Another great idea. Instead of using the reed as a raddle, could you use a raddle on the back beam with the lease sticks held in place in front of it as seems more usual and still use this weight method of tension? Also, could you show us the bamboo blinds you are using on the warp beam? Finally, is the dowel attached to the ceiling on both ends or does it have a cord attached to both ends running through a single hook in the ceiling? Thank you.

Hi Laura I've watched this video a number of times hoping I'll finally get it right:) Do you have a photo of how the breastbeam is made stationary? I've checked your blog and in videos but haven't seen that. This is my problem. I can't keep the breatbeam from moving but need to remove it for threading....and although I've been very reluctant to drill into the loom...that may be the only way. I only get one chance so hope photos would help me get it right :) thanks so much

I have a question regarding this method. Sometimes one of the warp threads will be a lot looser than the others (maybe less tension on that end while winding warp). How do you make sure that all the ends are tensioned evenly?
@LauraAnnFry112 жыл бұрын
Yes, a raddle would work just fine. I just prefer to use the reed to spread my warp. The dowel is attached to the ceiling with brackets at each end. Unfortunately I could not rotate the camera to get a portrait format. I'll try to get some photos and post to my blog laurasloom.blogspot.com

Thank you for this video. How do you attach the jug so it doesn’t slip down the warp? I couldn’t make that work.
