Good Morning America host Joan London introducing new journalist Kathy Lee Johnson who did a feature on Bill Monroe's Bluegrass Festivals in Bean Blossom, IN July 9th,1982. It was awesome to have been a part of "Picking At Sundown" with Bill Monroe and everyone (4:33). It was a special time each year for the Bluegrass Stars , armature pickers, and fans to come together for a jam at the entrance to the park. I had just turned 20 years old and was playing banjo with Carl Story & The Rambling Mountaineers" at this festival. June 19th, 1982 right before I went with Jim & Jesse & The Virginia Boys in February 1983! Great memories!

Bill is a member of the buegrass hall of fame. the nashville songwrites hall of fame, the country music hall of fame, and the rock n' roll hall of fame. Jerry Garcia, of the greatful dead, said Monroe is the greatest musician this nation has produced.

In the 70"s I was asked by Dave Woolum and his Laurel County Partners from Trenton , Ohio to play bass ( electric bass at that ) and we did two sets . If Bill would have been at the gate when we pulled in , he would not have let us in to play . Thanks Bill Woolum for asking me to fill in for your bass player then . It was quite an experience for me .
