My 6 year old nephew and I just watched this, and we thought this was hilarious. Oh my gosh, the toon force was sick and he started cracking up when the hen turned into an airplane 😂

Popeye must be the oldest cartoon character (age 40!) To play JACK in his own series..... just about every animated studio during this post war era have their take on this fairy tale ! Nearly every giant falling off the beanstalk end up cratering the earth!

So in this cartoon it was ok for Jack to go up the beanstalk to rob a giant (the chicken was the his even if he hit it), to which the giant chased him to get his property back and in the process of the chase Jack murders the giant by chopping down the plant. How is this right? I know it's just a cartoon but it's just crazy that I watch this as a kid without seeing anything wrong but now as a adult I see this cartoon so differently.

I felt bad for that giant. He was living his life up in the clouds, happy and counting his golden eggs, slicing them to make coins, then Jack came along and stole the hen and (SPOILER) the poor giant fell off the beanstalk while chasing him and died.

Nice little toon, a remake of the 1933 Terrytoon Bean Stalk Jack, which was far more interesting.
@fromthesidelines7 жыл бұрын
It'a an amalgam of that, and the studio's first color cartoon, "String Bean Jack" (1938).

There was at least one more, _The Two-Headed Giant_ from 1939 that was part of the Jack cycle. Although there it was Jack The Giant Killer more than Jack And The Beanstalk, but it did feature the best character of the cycle, the two-headed giant, who fairytalewise belonged more to the Jack and the Giant Killer branch, but got his Terrytoon start, I think, in _String Bean Jack_. The studio freely mixed in The Old Lady Who Lived In A Shoe (and that shoe, before and after, is a great piece of art work) with Old Mother Hubbard.
