Bear Bagging: Food Storage on the Appalachian Trail Part 1

Per viewer request, I bring you all a 3 part series on food storage options for your hikes! In this video, I cover the good ole bear bag. When I first started backpacking, I was taught to use and hang a bear bag. Unfortunately, I was not a fan of hanging a bear bag, so I personally don’t prefer this food storage option. Complete honesty: I was totally one of those people who did not hang my bear bag when I used it through NH and ME. But, I consulted my tramily member Mountain Crusher, who bear bagged faithfully the entire Appalachian Trail. I present to you all the pros, cons, options for bags, and MC’s pro tips for bear bagging! By the way, I’m terrible at bear hangs, so if you’re looking for a video on how to hang your bag like a pro, please look elsewhere (sorry!)! Everybody starts out with a bear can or hanging. 99% of people eventually just sleep with their food. Just don’t leave it unattended.
