If caught a bear farm can be fined up to USD2,500 and any bears found to have had their bile extracted will be confiscated. If the bear is not registered or microchipped (i.e. bears captured after the industry became illegal in 2005) then the farm can be fined an additional USD2,500 to USD25,000 and face a jail term of six months to three years. However this is the role of the authorities, our focus is on getting bears safely back to our sanctuaries so we can help them heal.

I've been worrying and trying to learn more about these beautiful abused and neglected animals. Now they should be finding ways to use the damn AIs for all these socalled treatments etc. Then they don't have to kill and maim and abuse innocent creatures. So a BEAR can BE a BEAR. I've read and seen how much these guys fear and hate people. JEEZ. I can't imagine why! They are so beautiful. This touching and unbelievable first roam outside where she belongs made me cry so hard. I sent a little money to a zoo in Indonesia I think. The animals were starving and begging patrons for food. Eating garbage! Why? Let them go if you can't take care of them or treat them with respect and kindness. They would be far better off foraging themselves somewhere. Even if they really couldn't it would be better than their lot. My piddly bit didn't even register with the exchange and what not. I have many other charities I donate to, but I am on a fixed income so I have to budget them carefully. I still want to find a way to help you guys and any others who are working to stop these horrible things. Like hundreds of mans best friend shoved in crowded spaces, tortured and eaten. They are NOT meant for our dinner tables. Oh crap. I'll stop. I'm getting too upset and this is a HAPPY LOVELY vid. You guys are angels. I'm sorry I got carried away. Please if you can let us know what kind of things we can do to help at least a little. Love to all of you for caring. Can someone kiss Primrose from me? Lol. Idk if you can even get close while she's awake. I just so adore her furry little feet touching that soft grass. Bears, mostly moon bears, are caught in the wild as cubs or bred on farms so their bile can be repeatedly extracted and sold as traditional medicine. They are kept in cages without any access to the outside or other bears. They are kept like this for years, often decades. The demand for bear bile is driven by the belief that it has medicinal qualities. Bear bile use is common in traditional medicine, as well as ordinary household products and cosmetics like shampoo and toothpaste. Bear bile can even be found in wine, and 'bile teas'. Sold in the form of powder, tonic or pills, bear bile is considered to be a 'cure' for a range of ailments from acne, hangovers, colds, sore-throats, haemorrhoids, conjunctivitis and even cancer. But it comes at a devastating price for the bears, and many never escape or escaped the industry. Primrose is a victim of the industry, but has now been rescued and can live her best life at our sanctuary.
