An educated bear is tough to outwit. You might have to change tactics. The Ouell bear traps are pretty slick. Either the Ursus 1 or #2. I prefer the #1 because most bears here(Quebec) are slappy when it comes to barrels. They are used to slapping them to get food. Not good for a bucket type set up. The Ursus #1 is set like a regular foothold in the trail of the bear. Pan tension is adjustable. I am not affiliated with Ouell in any way. Very enjoyable to watch the family help reset your trap. I ran a trap line a long time ago not for Bear but for other critters. When I had a critter out smart me I would sometimes set a double set could you do that for Bear ? maybe put a double snare on the same hole?

I'm not allowed to do that but thanks for the suggestion. The coons are the worst cause they keep digging up the trap. Lol. Cussed things. 🦝
