Abby, due to your videos and review of the Hipshot system, I visited Resophonic Outfitters on Monday to have the hipshot system installed and a bottom-up set up done on my beautiful 2008 Rayco squareneck. Ben was quite crafty and let me "play" a couple of their in-stock guitars while I waited!!! - BIG MISTAKE (for me) because I ended up walking out with an absolutely gorgeous brand new Beard Trailhead roundneck in Blue Denim! Ben did all the work on the Rayco and was extremely helpful. I learned a ton about reso guitars as he was working and explaining things to me. Ben also gave me a tour of the shop, which was awesome! Paul Beard came into the shop towards the end of the visit and he was so kind. He played my Rayco for a while which was an absolute pleasure to see/hear. Highly recommend Resophonic Outfitters and Beard Guitars; super knowledgeable, friendly and helpful staff. Had no intentions whatsoever to take a new guitar home but the blue roundneck was just amazing. I'm so glad to now have experienced a Beard guitar. Abby, thank you for your reviews and videos - always very helpful.

that was so much fun! I would had loved to see a little of them building the Megan Lovel lap steel. I do not know which I want more, a Beard dobro or the lap steel but neither is in the cards anyway lol. Thank you so very much for sharing.

Great to see the source of dobro goodness - I have a Radio R standard with the Hipshot, fantastic and fun instrument. Just a quick note that you were the first KZbinr I watched when I decided to pick up dobro about a year ago (though had a 50+ year head start on guitar, bass, and some banjo). At first I never thought I'd be able to do what I wanted, comp behind singing. But your vids helped show the art of the possible. These days solo gigs are half guitar, half dobro, with vocals and the dobro is always a conversation started. Especially if you play classic rock on it....

At the age of 72, a lifelong guitar player and fooler around with other instruments, I picked up the Dobro. This is the most fun I have ever had playing music. I started with a junky borrowed Epiphone resonator guitar that I added a nut extension to turn it into a dobro. After just a few weeks I decided, this is serious. So, I bought a Gold Tone, Paul Beard signature series that arrived about a week ago. It is such a beautiful sounding instrument. One question about this video though. What caused that major crack in the neck of one of your instruments? I want to protect mine from any such issues. Sidenote, my oldest daughter is also an Abbie.

Hey Larry! Don't worry .... just be good to your guitar and there's a low chance of a crack like that! :) Also, don't leave a round neck guitar in a high tuning with a nut raiser for a long time. :)

How much should person pay for a Dobro?

tough question. It depends on your budget, where you're buying it, if it's used or new, how much you love it, if you know you're going to play it forever or if you're just starting out and testing the waters... SO many factors I can't really put a # on it!

I just bought a $1200 Gold Tone from Musicians Friend and am very happy with it. I considered buying less expensive, but I'm glad I took the plunge.
