I have just started with a straight razor, Boker Engelbert Graf von Berg backed up with a Boker Barberette and a Mercur 34C HD. Did my first shave on the straight razor today, my first straight razor shave, with a few days growth. Main problem was being slow and drying out. I found the Barberette the most difficult to use, not much feel of feedback from it. Thank you so much for the videos, couldn't have done a straight shave without them. Would like to see something on difficulties with the different types of razor and how to overcome them. With regard to the reply on body hair, in my experience this can be shaved off any of the straight bits with a razor sharp knife.

Nice amount of detail in this demonstration, Geo. geofatboy ok so I have been using this razor all week and getting moderately better. I am right hand dominant so not switching hands a lot just yet. I would like to be fairly comfortable with one hand before I throw myself a cure egg ball. Anyway I am noticing that my beard grows way faster using this razor compared to a single blade double edge razor. I am pretty close to bbs with the artisan blades. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Take care, Paul. 🇨🇦😎

I'm the absolute polar opposite of ambidextrous. I believe I only have a left arm for balance so I don't topple over. I forgot to ask... Curious... Hey, geofatboy. I have a few questions. I just got into wet shaving ('m currently using a DE safety razor), and would at some point like to try out a straight razor/shavette. The thing is, I'm partially paralyzed on the left side of my body, which means I can't grip things with my left hand very well, and that I can't pull my skin taut. Is it a bad idea to try to shave both sides of your face with one hand when using a straight razor? Is it a bad idea to shave with a straight razor and not pull the skin taught? If it does turn out to be safe to use a straight razor with only one hand and not pull the skin taut, would this particular razor, with the non-folding handle, be a good choice? Thanks!

Hey dude. I recently started shaving with one of these razors. I never tend to stretch my skin with my free hand, only using awkward facial expressions lol. There's a barber on KZbin called Barber Turko from UK who posts a lot of shavette shaving videos and I noticed he doesn't switch hands. It's a year since you posted so guessing you have either already given up or are a master by now. Hope it's the latter. :) All the best mate!

If only those Feather blades weren't € 18,00 a pack. 90 cents a piece. Thats for one or 2 shaves max. Are there any aftermarket blades. Even Feather DE blades cost €0.50 a piece. I like there products, but for that price ill look for something more affordable to shave with, like DE Voskhod blades. The reason why feather is no 1 with modern barbershops is that not many can hone a real straight razor.
@geofatboy5 жыл бұрын
Actually the reason Feather Artist Club Razors are popular in modern barber shops is that the Barber needs to use a replaceable blade razor by law. For hygienic reasons. You can't use the same blade on two clients. Feathers are popular cause they're the best. If you're paying big bucks for a straight razor shave, $1 or $2 for a blade is not much expense to the barber.
