Penn reel parts are interchangeable from Wrath all the way up to Battle models. The only difference in the reels is the materials that they are made of. A Wrath is pretty much all plastic, where a Battle is almost all metal. It's not until they get to Spinfishers and Slammers that the parts are different.

I wouldn't throw it away. Keep it for parts if you're not going to fix it or put anymore money into it. You could probably sell it for parts too if you wanted to. I just picked up two Wrath 5000 combos from Wal*Mart for $24 each figuring that I'd use one and keep the other for parts but I think that I'm just going to spend the money on replacing the plastic bushings with Stainless Steel Ball Bearings and maybe even replace the drag washers with the carbon fiber drag washers and I'll probably have these things for the rest of my life and then some. What did you end up doing with it?

Reels these days are built to make money on production assembly lines as fast as they can get them out the door. I'm not surprised it let you down. I'm a 60s kid I still have my penn spinners from the 80s still in great working condition in 1985 I bought one of the 80SW & the 80S. In 1986 I bought one of the 250GR. I also bought one of the HT100. I'm in my late 50s now they never not once given me any issues of wanting to fail on me period even to this day..my penn spinners are vintage they're sitting in my rod & reel case e every once in a while I'll take them out fishing in the gulf. I bought a couple since then so I could keep my first ones from getting messed up but they have failed me. I've never bought another penn spinner after that lol its about the money nowadays. So not for nothing I’ve seen these reels actually fall apart with a fish on the like, it’s a saltwater reel so these fish are usually large. I probably personally would have went with the pursuit 6000-8000 a lot of plastic parts in these reels. I wouldn’t personally fix it, huck it in the trash. Pick up a slammer or a battle if you wanna budget fish. Just not worth the headache of catching another fish an this happening.

The reel is cheap for a reason. Made with cheaper materials. Cheaper to buy a nee reel. Open it before use and grease it and seal it prior to first use. Ever se the reel as a winch. Use the rod to fight and control the fish, pull and wind down on the fish. Always keep rod tip up and let it take the strain. If you know how to maintain and work that reel, it can last you years. If you winch with it or let a novice use it and they strip the gear, well that's on you. That reel I my country costs 12 times a much, after currency exchange and tax so we have to take care of them. Keep the reel and just get a new crown wheel and pinion and a new bearing and replace them. It will be as good as new.

@@BeardedBrad92 I prefer casting reels for surf fishing. But the guys who like spinning use the long cast reels and swear by them. Line lay is different because slower oscillation and the spools are different. Makes a big difference when you need to make a 100+ yard cast. Akios, Shimano, and Daiwa all make distance cast reels.
