Maybe it's just me, but I think if anyone is concerned about engine longevity their best bet is to change their oil more frequently. Spending more to buy the best oil is not so important when you change your oil every 3,000 miles instead of every 7,000, 8,000 etc. miles. More frequent oil changes get dirt out of the engine sooner and the longer we leave the oil in the more clogged the filter gets which can reduce oil pressure and circulation.

Nope, it won't reduce oil pressure or volume, because the oil filter bypass valve will open if the filter restricts. Also most bypass valves open at relatively low pressure, 14 or so psi, so if your engine runs at less pressure than that, well, it's probably already got issues. Also on cold starts and higher rpm operation the bypass is already open anyway. Now that's not to say they aren't filtering at all, just that they are not filtering all the oil that the sump picks up all of the time.

Those ol'timers had more in their head then anything coming out of our schools today. BTW, this to me was the BEST oil discussion I've listened too, period. Fascinating stuff! Also, before you do testing with that new oil, can you use a scope to see what the inside of the car looks like if its an older one? All this hype today with that Valvoline Restore, it would be interesting if this oil cleans up an older car...

Great video (as usual), BFT!! As a fellow Amsoil Dealer myself, I want to state (for the benefit of your viewers) that Amsoil claims they chemically analyzed all the Synthetic Blend Oils from their competitors in the marketplace, where they have determined the actual synthetic content ranged ONLY from 1% to 15%!! Conversely, Amsoil uses in excess of 50% synthetic content in their Synthetic Blend Oil, but they aren't disclosing the exact percentage. It was indeed exciting to see that Lake was highly enthusiastic over this fairly new Amsoil Synthetic Blend Oil!

Indeed! Most blend oils are right around 20% i think. If it's 80% or more it can be considered full synthetic. I learn something new everyday. I think 1-15% you nailed that. Amsoil isn't just throwing stuff together. They do research and a lot of it.

I had recently read that most synthetic blend oils only contain between 1% - 15% synthetic, and most are closer to the 1% than the 15%. Castrol being the exception... their synthetic bend supposedly approaches closer to 30% synthetic...

Another pair of Amsoil products that work incredibly well is Dominator Octane Boost and Upper Cylinder Lubricant! I tested them in my 03 Z06 Corvette last week. My LS6 v8 had a tick tick sound and fairly loud valve train noises when cold, enough so that I drive gently until it warmed up. After driving until it was up to temp, I pulled over and added the octane boost and the upper cylinder lubricant. Within 2 miles, my engine dramatically quieted down as if I threw a sound deadening blanket over it and the performance woke up even more! It’s quieter whether it’s idling or revving! Then, the next morning with a cold start, the tick tick sound and loud valve train noises were gone! If engine noises are reduced that much, how much less wear is occurring! Lake Speed Jr. said that Premium fuel with friction modifiers reduce upper cylinder wear. Premium fuel doesn’t quiet my engine down the way Amsoil upper cylinder lubricant does!

I use the performance improver and upper cylinder lube. In the last used oil analysis video 1 tank before the oil change i used quickshot and thay showed up under fuel dilution. Cause it was doing it's job. Yes high octane fuel does have more cleaners and stuff in it. But not as much as amsoils products. It does help better thsn low grade fuel. Try performance improver man that stuff works good! I'll have to try the octane boost in my truck. I've done it in my motorcycle. But it's a high revving bike anyway.

It had 40,000 miles on it when I got it and I put signature series in it but it was using more oil than I was used to, a quart in 2500 miles. I switched to the high mileage and it’s using less now.

I did a real test on Walmart motor oil in my 1992 Ford Escort that I keep at my country home. When I bought it had 38,000 miles on it and now it has 240,000 miles on it and runs like brand new. No oil burning. Now that is a real test. But I also been using Amsoil since the late 70's. And use it in My Volkswagen Golf which is pushing over 300,000 miles on it. I never hot rodded my cars. Now I just bought a 2024 Audi A6, and the dealer said that I cannot use Amsoil in it or it will void the warrantee. I called Audi of America and they said the same.😏

Probably because Amsoil will cause the engine to last significantly longer. They tested the engine with the oil they recommend and have used from factory and the dealership. They need to make money at the dealer level in the service/repair shop so they want you to use the only oil they recommend. But it sounds like the dealer and Audi of America are in violation of the Magnuson-Moss Warrenty Act and need to be reported to the Federal Trade Commission(USA). Be sure you have proof. Does your Audi use 0w-20? If so then it can use Amsoil Euro 0w-20 as it meets the VW 508.00/509.00 specs. It will say in your cars manual what spec oil is approved. I think your dealer is full of it, and Amsoil of America needs to read their own datsheets. I would take your manual and amsoils euro datasheet and show them that it can use it as long as it meets the specs and won't void the warranty. Under the hood there should be a sticker that says the oil Viscosity & Standard. You will know if its the right oil from the color as well. VW 508.00/509.00 is green, unlike more normal oils that are amber/light brown. Motorcycle oils can be red. Depending on the engine the oil standard will be different. We just got a 2024 VW Tiguan. It has a 2.0L Turbo and uses 0w-20 VW 508.00. And I just changed the oil at 500miles with Valvoline European 0w-20 that has a oil standard of VW 508.00. I will change it again at 5k, and then let the dealer do its thing at its first service of 10k. If they say anything about the oil being changed I will show them all the data so they don't try and pull anything to void the warranty.

I overcleaned my 5000 hr. Small engines. They needed a bit o carbon seal. I ran 300 hrs. With conv. Oil to reseal the rings. Now a 50/50 blend same brand. No more blowby! Works better than cheap blends.

Are you doing the 1,000 mile oil change? I think the chemical makeup is better thsn OE. He compared it to signature and OE. It's a lot closer to signature series even though it's a synthetic blend. OE is full synthetic. By looking at the results I think you would do better with Synthetic Blend. Then send it off to test and see what it's doing. Wouldn't hurt to try right.

@@BeardedFordTech Makes sense, this is specific to our 2024 Mustang, Its not a daily driver, we put on less than 3000 miles seasonally and some of the issues I found was oils that meet the ford specification, I have no doubt that the signature series is one of the best options however it is very pricy for something that is not going to have many miles on it.

I contacted Amsoil and they confirmed it was not listed, so I went with the OE for that reason. Since that time it has been added to the Signature Series specifications.

I run 5w30 Penzoil Platinum in my 21 mustang gt with the Wix oil filter and change it every 3k miles on the dot cause i run E85. Yes im aware Penzoil can go longer but im not taking any chamces and i like keeping fresh oil in her. I beat on her every now and then plus the E85 is known to wear down the oil faster than regular gas. That and i love knowing cha.ging it out this soon helps keep the engine cleaner. I drop the old oil its just a light tan color. Not even dark but i also run a UPR oil catch can

@702Wolfi ummmm. Nowhere near cheap oil. Took a lot of engineering to make this. Did you watch the whole thing? This is a superior synthetic blend. It's closest to the signature series full synthetic. I would say that's really good. Even their low end oil isn't anywhere near the cheap oil. None of their product line has anything cheap about it.

I found a case of 20 yr. Old havoline 10w 40. I shook it hard. As I poured it. What looked like zink flakes came out. My 300,000 truck loved it! Mowers and gens loved it. I never go past dark amber so no ill effects! Lol

I had the carbs cleaned on a my twin cylinder rotator snowmobile when it had 4200 kilometers on it and it sat for 8 yrs. tech said motor was still in great shape and compression was outstanding. He did say I should follow the exhaust valve cleaning interval as they were a little dirty. When I said they had never been off and cleaned he asked what two stroke oil I used. When I told him Amsoil he said ah figured it’s the best two stroke oil made.

But what is a good oil brand....many have claimed to have the best stock based oils which in other tests & lakespeed have confirmed arent true as they are failing wear & heat tests ....many have admitted switching to amsoil with way better results to quieter motors & less temperture better mileage which is a no brainer & have mates that run amsoil in dirtbikes with better wear on pistons & cranks hence longer running time on parts ....better clutch feel over hrs of riding & quieter motors just through running this over others they use to use

The price point for a 55gal drum of 5W-30 Amsoil synthetic blend is the same as Pennzoil Gold and Mobil Super synthetic blend prices: supports the oil-change business strategy. Amsoil's OE used to be its quick-lube product line but it's 55gal price can't compete with even cheaper Quaker State or Truguard

Yea I'm that dealer , I was just floored. After 35 years WHY would they would do this. Soybean oil or not it is the shallow side of the pool. But credit to AMSOIL for the blend chemistry. I am extremely concerned that a person on the cheap will try running this on a extended interveal

Great video...Question for @themotoroilgeek. You had mentioned in one of your recent videos that standard oil runs hotter than synthetic oil. Would that have any bearing on the thermal performance of the synthetic blend? And are the polymers used in the SB likely less expensive or less resistant to viscosity breakdown, meaning a "standard" drain interval (many think to be 3k - 5k miles, or equivalent hours)? He replied to me. This is what he said "The blend should run hotter (marginally) than the full synthetic. The polymers used in the blend would be the same as the synthetic. It is not cost effective to stock multiple polymers due to logistic costs."

@@BeardedFordTech , thank you. I would be comfortable running this oil, though I still prefer FS and will continue using that with oil analysis. I certainly don't mind not changing the oil as often. Do you ever worry that the filter might experience reduced efficiency before the oil life limit is reached? I think about that on my cars with the smaller filters mostly. Maybe if the oil and filter are changed before oxidation and viscosity breakdown occur, that mitigates filter concerns.

@RSAF-rms if your running signature series your supposed to change the filter about halfway through if your doing extended oil drain intervals. If your just going 3-5k no need. Filters go 10-12k now (depending on oil and how you drive)

Interesting video discussing Amsoil’s new Synthetic Blend. Nice trio in the video. While it would seem contrary to the brand, Lake pointed to an interesting piece of the chemistry, soybean oil. Until someone provides further analysis of a customers oil, who don’t know what a tire is, it seems a great product for those that change their oil every 10K+ miles, if ever. My personal choice has been Pennzoil Ultra Platinum or Platinum every 5K miles. Served my cars and children’s cars for a long time. All our cars are VAG and all have used turbochargers. We drive them, from new, 150K-200K miles. Haven’t experienced any sludge or VAG engine failures.

I run amsoil XL. We'll i was cause i was testing it. I'm running signature series now to test. Pennzoil platinum is good. Just didn't hold up to how I drive and where I live. In my turbo charged engine. Hopefully soon we can get used samples of this new blend in to analyze it. I wouldn't say go 10k on it. 5k and test it.

@@BeardedFordTech I’m in agreement with you. For me 5K is the most. I’ve never understood 10K changes. You know there’s so many people that are clueless about maintenance. The everybody in the auto business is out to get them. My son and I tune our cars, while my wife and daughters drive tuned but don’t use them the same way. Manufacturers recommending 10K blows my mind. Suppose it’s fine if they don’t keep the car beyond warranty. Takes all kinds, right. ✌️

@Tread1775 i do 8-10k changes. Plus I've been testing it. Never understood why 10k blows people mind now. If ypu think about it 3k was normal then 5k nobody said anything. Engines have advanced a lot. Then comes 7500-10k and all the sudden everyone thinks it's bad. It's bad if you use crap oil. Or don't test it. I'm not saying everyone should do it. I'm saying go 5k and test to see where it's at. Could go further maybe not. Maybe 5k is too much. Maybe it's too soon. Changing oil too soon isn't a good thing either. Got to find the happy medium.

I love running full synthetics in my truck but my question would be this, how well would this work in something with a turbo because it's not really aimed at that. I currently run AMSOIL Signature in my 2020 Silverado Turbo-4 and I love it a lot. But I don't always have the money to buy it. The one store in the area that sells Signature charges $17 a bottle which is where I got it from initially so I could do my oil change. After paying that I was just going to order it from AMSOIL directly there after for far lass. As much as I like full synthetics would this AMSOIL Syn-Blend work as a good stop-gap for when I can't buy Signature? I like AMSOIL and I don't want to buy any of the cheaper stuff found in stores. I get tired of having to switch brands just because funds don't allow it. If this stuff works I have no issues running a Syn-Blend for when I can't have Signature but I get to stick with AMSOIL.

I wish someone would do a comparison between Amsoil SS, Amsoil XL, and OE. I asked this of Project farm but he has not rerun tests. Why do I ask for this? Because I use Amsoil SS but change every 5-6K and if the XL or OE does just as well as SS in tests then I could save money by using XL. A canadian guy tells me that XL in his Tundra worked better because in has a higher Shear than the SS. I don't know if that is true but I looked it up in Amsoils site and it does have a higher htss or something like that. When I asked Amsoil they were very vague in answering my question to the point that it was essentially and NON answer.

@dalephillips8250 i am testing Signature series now. I tested XL in different intervals ranging yp to 10k. Ita good for 20k (12k severe service) which my truck is severe service cause it's turbocharged charged. I'll be sending results off soon with the Signature series with 5k miles. I have to do a couple oil changes to make sure all the xl is out. I will tell you that if your running 5-6k. You can go further. If your doing 5-6k then go with OE. Or. You can keep doing that and wait for this results when I do the video. But. I am testing it yes.

Yes, seeing soybean oil on the MSDS sheet made me think, hey, you better have some powerful anti-oxidants and lots of it to keep it from burning (oxidizing) away. Another note (did they mention this in the video or maybe I missed it?) is that Amsoil says their "Synthetic Blend" is about 50% synthetic, more than a lot of synthetic blends out there. All that said, Valvoline Restore and Protect gets the carbon off your pistons, so they win, with that innovation. I do wonder how a high-oxidation-value (high POE, ester) oil would do in cleaning rings too, like Redline oil for example. If Lake Speed Jr. loves real engine testing, like he says here, he should recommend oils that meet the standard U.S. API SP, and then that add in all the European testing (like 229.71, vw508, C20, ACEA C6, LL-17FE+, etc. you know) done for euro German engine qualifications, ON TOP of the API SP for Fords, Toyotas, Dodges, Honda, Nissan, etc. engines. (Example: Castrol Edge GOLD BOTTLE/JUG has 229.71 in addition to U.S. API SP and GM dexos1 too.)

@softwaresignals yes it's 50% more than other oils. Amsoil exceeds manufacturers recommendations. Restore and protect is good. But it doesn't work the same in all engines. Just like any oil. None of them work the same across the board. Including amsoil. But I will say amsoil keeps your engine clean helping prevent carbon (also what performance improver and upper cylinder lube are for) and I've heard they are coming out with some sort of restore formula as well. Time will tell.

All Vegetable oils were originally used as machine oils.. Vegetables oils got further refined so it can be used as a food. One of the first veg. oils to be used as food grade/edible was cotton seed oil. Just do your research on Vegetable oils : aka seed oils... eg. from cotton seed oil to conola oils, yes I said canola oil is a seed oils. We are literally consuming refined industrial machine oils...

Havoline pro RS....I used it for 3 2500 mile oil changes...each time I drained the oil filter housing on 2016 Highlander nothing came out...had to remove and dump so I resumed mobil 1 and or Pennzoil full synthetic. Housing drains every time ...not sure what was going on but except for that...the veggie oil seemed to perform like petroleum

Im a use a conventional oil or full synthetic oil guy ! I really dont see any benefit using a blend not even the cost ! Amsoil is made for extended OCI's which im also not a big fan of ! I use both pennzoil ultra platinum and supertech 10,000 mile syn. both with great results ! I have no problem changing the oil at 4k to 5k or every 6 months !

I had a 1957 Chev with a 283 that had the best oil mileage. Every time the "gas jockeys" (remember them?) checked the oil, it was a quart low, then they told me that I had the cleanest oil on the dipstick that they had ever seen. They asked me when was the last time I changed oil and I told them the last change I could remember was about six months and 10,000 miles ago. What they didn't know that the oil pressure sensor had cracked and was leaking. It was winter in Winnipeg, Canada, and I didn't have any place warm to change the oil pressure sensor until spring. I always used Quaker State 10/30. Still have the car, still driving it, but now only in the summer. Other than that I run it every month in the garage and around the block when it's nice enough out side. I'm 82 and I bought the car new in 1958 for $2795.00 cash. It has been appraised at over $80,000 now. The only thing major I replaced was the engine (twice) and the transmission, once in 1966 to a M22 4 speed. It came with a three on the tree. I then upgraded the 283 to a 327 in 1964 and then a 383 custom built engine in 1995 . The car has also had the convertible top, replaced twice, and the clutch four times. Other than that, it had only had regular maintenance and still runs beautiful. AND NO, IT'S NOT FOR SALE!!

The new Amsoil Synthetic Blend looks interesting. I've avoided Amsoil due to the expense. The soy bean oil was a surprise. I knew that the original Castrol oil had castor bean oil in it. I had no idea that original lubricants were derived from vegetable oil. We got a history lesson today. Definitely looking forward to test results to see how well the synthetic blend holds up. I'd be willing to make the switch to Amsoil synthetic blend. All three vehicles in my fleet take 5W-30 and are older vehicles. The newest has the most mileage at 312K. It both leaks and burns oil so I stay away from synthetics.

AMSOIL of course... using their high milage oil, of course, 5w30 f/ 0w20... now runz smoother & i've noticed an increase of about 2 mpg... not using any oil yet, do not xpect it 2... $44k car, i wood NOT use anything cheap in my car...

I am going to do one of these test and not tell them the brand of oil juts number them to see if they are being bias and altering the out comes because of possible deals or contacts or out of fear of back lash

I said the same thing until I thought about it. I figured Amsoil wanted to capture so of the lower tier price points and giv some of the benefit of their high quality oils while getting their name out there. It's possible some some repair shops and oil change shops may decide to use their oils since they can get them at a lower cost.

GREAT INFORMATION! I'm always looking for more information to pass along to my Subaru owners, especially the WRX/STI owners. The EJ engines only work well with a few blends of oil, as soon as you go cheap on oil the engine starts to fail.

@baja-automotive exactly! Now I'm not a Subaru fan. But I did work there for a bit. And the ones who did switch to amaoil even being OE they saw better results. I think this new blend is going to do very well. It's appealing to a completely different market. They did their homework on this one.

I have a 2022 Rav-4 the Toyota dealer makes my oil change at 16000 km which gives your 10000 miles

Dealer makes you change it? They can't make you do anything unless you have a service contract. Which in most cases isn't needed. You have oil changes rolled into your loan. And yes Toyota goes 10k. What you would want is an Extended Manufacturers Warranty.

This is coming from my 5+ decades 1st hand experience wrenching/rebuilding/restoring classic muscle cars & motorcycles seeing time after time what failed motors look like inside that had extended 7,500-10k oil changes. 10k mile oil changes is too long even with quality full syn oil no matter what oil analysis says because it gets too dirty & the additive pkg getting pushed too hard being mostly used up offering much less protection which is why It’s best to change the oil & filter in your RAV4 every 5k miles max using quality full syn oil. You do that & you will not not have any oil related issues with your rav4. Ruining the motor 2x longer to 10k mile oil changes allows too many contaminants to build up in the motor & oil along with also pushing the oils additive pkg to the limit too to where it can’t protect the motor near as good as it should. But if your motor already has a lot of miles on it with 10k oil changes considerable wear damage could have already occurred & introducing 5k oil & filter changes will not fix that & or clean up the motor. If that’s the case you could maybe try valvoline’s new Restore Line of full syn oil that’s designed to remove dirt & Carbon from the moyir including carbon ftom piston ring groves on pistons releasing/freeing the rings to better seal with the bores again reducing oil use & blowby. Btw,my wife bought a new RAV4 on 2018 that just turned 63k miles running great with never 1 issue to take back to the dealer. I 1st changed the oil & filter in my wife’s new RAV4 at 1k miles using 5w-20 (not the rec 0w-20) M1 full syn extended perf oil because it has a more robust additive pkg to handle extended oil changes though I do them every 5k miles. The reason I use 5w vs 0w 20 oil is because the 5w base oil in the 5w-20 oil makes the oil a bit more resistant to shear/viscosity loss which I had picked up on in oil testing I had done in the past. The 0w-20 oils base oil is not as resistant to shear which does affect the oils overall ability to reach its 20wt at full op temp when the 0w base oil is sheared vs if a 5w furs get sheared still bring a 2.5-3w post shear vs if you sheared an already 0w base oil that can affect its ability to reach 20wt oil at full op temp. Running the 5w vs 0w base oil instan an issue at all in most climates because it hood to well below zero cold start esp being full syn that flows better. But maybe it could be an issue in extreme cold cond like in Alaska. When I look in the valve cover on my wife’s RAV4 with a bright light it’s clean like new with no buildup or yellow residue at all. I did the same oil change regiment on my wife’s prior car an 07 pt cruiser her son totaled when it was still running great at almost 200k miles using approx 1qt every 5k miles at oil change time,still had the original transmission too that was still working great at almost 200k because I did filter & trans fluid change every 50k miles.

@scottwheaton9689 🤦‍♂️classic muscle cars aren't like today's engines. I'd rather go by data. Not your speculation. I've been in a lot of engines. Some who do 5k and they look horrible. Some who do 10k on crap oil. They look horrible. And the other way around. You didn't see the 200k miles engine I tore down did you. 8-10k oil changes. Clean inside. But we also use a superior oil. Not Some garbage oil. Again. I'd rather trust a oil analysis test.

Every GF6 rated oil will go head to head with Amsoil. Save your money on oil. Walmart, Costco, and Royal King is made by Warren Oil. Spend 5 bucks more go with Pennzoil ultra platinum.
