It is important to keep the hair trimmed around the Brussels Griffon's eyes, otherwise if the eye gets crusty, they'll scratch at their eyes. Flat faced dogs are more prone to eye scratches anyway. This happened to my two BG Dogs. Eye injuries are painful, expensive, and can lead to cataracts and blindness for your Dog. I learned it was important to get them groomed regularly.

Absolutely! Ralphie's hair around his eyes gets trimmed about every 2-3 weeks.

Have you always done his grooming?
@ralphienyc10 ай бұрын
I started grooming Ralphie when he was about 2 or 3 years old after he got a very botched cut at a groomer. I've done it ever since!

Bandage scissors or Elementary school scissors would be a better choice so you don't poke the pooch

Buy a pick to comb out the beard start from the bottoms work your way up to untangle the hair . You can use the actual clipper to shape the beard as well n detail with shears if needed

Just curious... how much does Ralphie weigh in this video at 9 yrs old and do you recall how much he weighed as a puppy 8-10 weeks old?
@ralphienyc10 ай бұрын
Ralphie has been a consistent 12.25 lbs for almost his entire life. Not including when he was a puppy of course haha. I don't recall how much he weighed than though - sorry!

Groomer here pls don’t run your clippers straight down the ear. You can cut the ear very easily.

Thats not the proper way to groom a griffon brussels.

Well, hand stripping is preferred for the rough coated Brussels Griffon, (that keeps any shedding to a minimum also) but for the pet BG you can cut the hair this way. One of mine didn't like the stripping, so since he's not a show dog, we just had his hair cut.
@ralphienyc10 ай бұрын
@@ed7519 exactly! Even with clipping him he does not shed.

Omg please don’t pull the hair while you’re clipping. You are pulling at his skin when you do that and it can get caught up in the blade at the wrong angle. I’m a groomer for 17 years and own a bunch of griffs myself. If you’re doing that because it’s not cutting good enough when you don’t, your problem is either he’s not clean enough (should be perfectly freshly clean and fully dry directly before clipping) or your clippers and/or attachment comb and/or blade aren’t very good quality.

Like it is actually so weird to watch you pull the hair out while clipping lol in all my 17 years working with lots of groomers including plenty of newbies and watching tons of grooming videos online I have never ever seen that.

This is not how to groom a Griffon 😢
@ralphienyc10 ай бұрын
That's weird, because it seemed to work perfectly fine for him for nearly a decade now! He's not a show dog and there are sometimes more than one way to do things ;)
