"Beste" has two meanings in Dutch: next to 'Best' it also means 'Dear', dependent on context. For example if you're writing a more formal letter, start with 'Beste Hr/Mvr ' (Dear Mr/Mrs ). But also in an informal jovial setting you can start a speech with 'Beste '. So because of the lack of context it's a rather clever title of the show :)

It's not a compition. They all are from different types of singing. The older man is from opera and musicals. He was the Dutch Phantom. The young blonde is a You Tuber. They take turns singing each other's songs or songs that relate to the person of the week. You need to watch all of them, hopefully the ones w/ English subtitles. Those help explain why certain songs were sung.

All Floor's cover are made her own version - Floor is never copying, if she feels the song and cover it - chances it will better than the original are huge. All songs Floor sing in this show are great. You'll different side of her talent from operette (she sings Vilja Lied in German for her childhood hero - Henk Poort, the original dutch Phantom of the Opera) and many more. When they did Phantom in this show, the internet exploded. Floor is perfectly aware what she can do and she loves it, that's why all her performances are so interesting. All songs she did in BZ are special, because all are out of her "comfort zone" (even if Venn diagram of that is huge) and she uses different techniques for each.

Beste Zangers has become one of my favorite shows. Last season the singer that got Floor into metal, Anneke Van Giersbergen, was on the show. The host brought up the fact that Floor had mentioned Anneke & her then band, "The Gathering" were her gateway into metal. Anneke said how honored and proud she was, because Floor is so amazing. As others have mentioned, it isn't a competition, per se. The night's featured singer chooses their favorite & all raise a glass.

This show was so much fun to watch as it happened each week. Floor was a bit of an unknown in the Netherlands at the time, and all anybody really knew about her was that she was the singer in a heavy metal band called Nightwish. So, when she goes on stage and breaks out an operatic aria in German on the first show everybody was just completely shocked and awed by what they’d just seen. Then, the think they’ve got her figured out and she goes and throws out a huge emotional ballad the next week and again… shock and awe. Ok now, they think they’ve got her figured again… nope. Time for a ragae flavored salsa piece in Spanish. And so on and so forth until it gets to the point that nobody knows what to expect each week other than it’s going to be awesome. She sings 9 songs in 8 wildly different genres (she sang Shallow twice, once solo and once in a duet) and 4 different languages. Needless to say, she’s quite well known in the Netherlands now. XD

My favorite Floor performance from this show is actually her first one. Most of the other guys in the show did not know who she was. Metal is not that big in the Netherlands even tho some of the best metal artist comes from that country imo. Floor has also not lived in the Netherlands for many years (she lives in Sweden now ) She sang an German classic opera song called Vilja Lied, but she had put her own Metal ock touch on it. It`s a Dutch TV show with well known artists in the Netherlands. All of them have their night of honor where all the other artists perform a song from the artist or a song that means something for him\her.

Great reaction! FYI this is not a competition, but more of a tribute show. All of the guests are professional singers, each week they choose one that will be the focus of the show and the other singers cover either an important song to the singer or one of the singer's own song. That week the focus was Emma the young woman in red on the sofa and Floor was sing Shallow because Emma loves the song and covered it on her KZbin channel.

Just a FYI. It's not a competition, it's like a tribute show. Every singer gets his or her evening when the other singers perform their versions of that singer's songs. The show when this aired was for a Dutch YT sensation that sings covers and that's why Floor did Shallow.

Floor looking demure on a stool, in pale sage green, starting off quietly, then her usual ramping up! There is also a duet with Tim, in another style. Beste Zangers, translates also as Dear Singers, definitely not a competition. It's new found friends enjoying each others company during the day, on the beach, picnics. In the evening one of them shares the centre sofa with the host, the others sing a song that has significance to them. Some people might have been confused by Floor singing "Winner" for Tim. 2019 series was absolutely astounding, I'd say every episode is worth a watch, with before and after (and subtitles). Jennie Zelf, or Denise Hofs. Final week of duets, Floor and Henk (who was the Dutch Phantom), Henk and Emma, Tim and Floor, all of them were special, outstanding.

Not a competition - but truly unique format where several singers from different genres sing for each other. Each week, one artist is "on the couch" while each of the others sings a song that is either written/performed or is of special meaning to the artist on the couch. At the end of each episode that artist chooses the song that moved them the most. No prizes, no winners - just singers having fun performing for each other. The last episode of each season is the duets where they pair off and perform duets for the rest of the group. Naturally, there is often one or two performers that shine a bit more than the rest. It's interesting because they are usually performing out of their comfort zone with the other artists' genres. And of course, Floor knocked every song she performed out of the park and into the next county!

Every song Foor did in this show is unbeliavable. Try "About love I don't know a thing", "Winner" and "Vilja Lied" (none of the other singers knew about Floor and Vilja was their intro to her, nice face reactions, lol). There where versions with the intros and outros but seem to be gone from YT, too bad. Wellwell, this is not shallow at all. Because it's our sitting queen showing, how to sing emotional ballads. Using her huge toolbox she grabs our Heart and Soul and never let us go. Nowadays i shut the radio, when they played the gaga/brad version. It's not their fault, than the massive airplay that they got. If you want to hear Shallow as a duet, she did it as a duet, but not with Marko. She did with TIm Akkerman, the curly haired, blonde guy who can be seen sitting on the couch during this performance. It's not as popular as many of the other ones, but it's also a great performance and I like their voices together. I listened to a podcast where they spoke about the process of choosing the participants/whom they were inviting, it's a huge challenge. If someone a bit "older" accepts to join Beste Zangers, they preferably don't want another older person. If there's an opera singer, they won't invite another opera singer, and so on. Each artist is from a different genre. Floor is (obviously) metal, but in her season we also had an opera singer (oldest on the couch), a KZbin cover artist (girl in the red dress), a salsa/reggae guy, a rock artist, a country artist and a Dutch folkmusic (bit hard to explain) singing artist. Each episode (8 in total), 1 artist is in the hotseat/spotlight. All other artists perform songs of the artist in the spotlight, or songs that mean a lot to them. At the same time, we go through the lives and careers of the artist in the spotlight as well. By no means it's a competition. it's just enjoying good music and stepping out of your comfortzone by trying new genres, other than your own.

It's not a competition, in the best possible way. "Beste Zangers" can also be translated as "Dear Singers". If you can, it's well worth watching the whole series 2019, with the conversation between songs, the other singers excel too, they encourage each other. Not a competition…just great singers singing songs to/for each other. You not only need to watch her and Henk Poort do Phantom of the Opera from this same program, but also watch a couple of the other singers singing for Floor. For example…Henk Poort doing Sounds of Silence and Emma Heesters ( the girl wearing the red dress in this video) singing Strong, which is a song Floor wrote for her mom back when she was in After Forever. Emma’s version is so beautiful it brought Floor to tears.

Was going to suggest Phantom of The Opera glad your going to do it next. The older gentleman watching Floor is Hank Port ( I know I spelled it wrong) he sings with Floor on Phantom. Also Floor covered Frozen on her channel actually for her Daughter. I have shown several parents & grandparents her version of Frozen because they actually hate, despise hearing that song because their children played it over and over constantly! Floor's performance on this show was a revelation for a lot of people who didn't really know her that much. Each and every one of the songs she performed on it was absolutely out of this world, just take your pick. Or just do them all, you def can't go wrong. Even though the show is not a competition, to me she was the absolute STAR of it. ( Emma Heesters ). one week another one of them is in the spot light. while the others sing for that person. its a song that person has performed or composed. they change the songs from one genre to another. look out for all of Floors songs.

It is not a competition. Just 7 Dutch singers paying tribute to each other with songs. Floor sang this for the young girl in red on the couch. Floor sings this same song with Tim Akkerman on another episode from this show. The young guy with the curly hair on the couch. Floor and the band decided to (keep it small), so that she was not imitating or copying Lady Gaga. All of the other singers thought Floor would belt it out with intense power. Floor always adds something to make it her own. Below is the 1st performance on the 1st episode of season 12 Beste Zangers 2019. None of the other vocalist new who Floor was and you will see their reactions. They thought "Oh here is this screaming metal chick". This is a song sung for Henk Poort, the older guy who is an opera singer. He played the role of The Phantom in the Dutch production. I am supplying you with the version with English subtitles. There is a short setup before Floor sings. It will help you to understand the concept of the show. Floor decided to participate in this show to prove to her native country that metal musicians are talented. The Netherlands does not appreciate metal. Except for an underground following. It worked. The concept of this show is to put singers from different genres together and have them celebrate each others careers and accomplishments. Floor wasnt well known in the netherlands prior to her participation on this show. Every week one of the singers is put in the spotlight and they converse about their career and the others sing songs from their catalogue or one that has special meaning to that artist. The last episode is a 'fun' episode were they sing duets together. Floor killed it every week and it put her in the eye and ear of every person watching the show. It launched a bunch of solo shows were its just her with the band of the show and only the older gentleman, called Henk Poort, joins her on those shows. He is also the one that sings 'Phantom of the Opera' with her because he was the actual phantom in the dutch version of the musical in the nineties. And apparently he was Andrew Loyd Webber's favorite phantom out of every one he had seen.

If you want a change of pace with Floor and fancy going a little on the Classical side of music , you might like to check out her singing 'O mio babbino caro' by Puccini which if you find the longer version where they introduce her to the audience by playing footage of her singing with Nightwish - they look shocked - and their faces are a picture when she starts singing! Also you might want to look at her duet with the lead singer of Epica (Simone Simmons) cover 'Stabat Mater' by Pergolesi who wrote it a week before he died - this is from an Epica concert accompanied by a full orchestra. From this concert she does another Duet with Simone called 'Sancta Terra' which is a spectacular number including the fastest Dutch Windmill I've ever seen! Take care guys 😃

Fun fact, most of us dutchies included myself never heard of her and i'm a metal head but most of us never knew who Floor Jansen was and i always watched this show and when i heard her sing for the first time it was the Vilja song kzbin.info/www/bejne/opSveGiOZs5lh68 and it was opera with a metal twist and i was hooked.....mindblowing performance and i heard she was the front lady of a band called Nightwish....eehhh never heard of them eather so i don't know under what rock i was be living but when i saw Nightwish for the first time and yes it was GLS i didn't know what i just saw that band what a talend the vocals.....out of this world i never heard a female vocalist like her she had no equal and she can sing whatever she wants to sing because she nailed every song in any genre so versatile just next level and a level i never heard, since that show now she is famous in the Netherlands like it should be, could you imagine if you are an artist with a hit song and Floor is going to cover it....you know that you're done because she let you hear how the song supposed to sound incredible i think is se sang the phone book she will blows our minds....great reaction btw and greetings from the Netherlands

...Floor in the Beste Zangers TV series was great experience to see and hear for sure 🙂 She did many great songs in those episodes, and one episode where the other guys sang Nightwish/favourite songs to her was epic too. Floor did a version of this as a duet on the same show. This version was to Emma another entertainer/contestant on the show. That's why she said tell me something girl twice.

This would make a for a fun reaction, the first song Floor sang at Beste Zangers "Vilja Lied" from the operetta "The Merry Widow" performed in German in front of the other singers. jenniezelf translated it into English so turn the subs on to get the chatter. None of them knew anything about Floor except for Tim Ackermann who had encountered her once or twice on the European festival tours. She was a blank slate to the rest. She is singing to Henk Poort, a Dutch opera singer and the original Dutch "Phantom". He is the first to take a turn on the couch and she is the first act to perform to start the show off. Yess please, Phantom also. I'm Dutch and watched this show on TV, but have listened/watched so much other NW music and solo's of Floor in the meantime that I almost forgot this one. It is an hommage to her mother, song is written by Floor herself and 2 of her old bandmembers. Performance was this summer in het Zomertheater (Summertheatre). Song is original on the album REMAGINE (2005) of her old band After Forever. Next to this I like all songs with Floor, all her diversity and strong passion and special way of performing, the contact she has with the crowd/fans.

Yep - Floor doing a cover, by telling the story how she thinks it could be told. You already know that if she had wanted to belt it out, she would have blown you to pieces as well - but Floor think this is an emotional story - and that's what you get from her. Her musical understanding are so deep, and combined with her techniques to perform anything in pure perfection, makes everything she touches - mind blowing. I think you are spot on when you address the $ driven music in North America 👍 By the way - the version of Phantom of the Opera Floor and Henk does : When the show started, everyone had a picture of Floor being a leatherdressed screaming metal head. In the first show - Floor was the first singer, and singing for one of the most famous opera singers in Europe. And he (Henk) had been going around teasing they others how he looked forward to hear them perform opera. Floor started, dressed in leather, to live up to their prejudice - with opera. Their faces were priceless - Floor raised the barr so skyhigh - and she continued from episode to episode. She made the studio into a crying bunch, more than once. In the Phantom of the Opera - Henk and her switches roles - she is the Opera girl and he is the metal dude!! - just to make fun of how wrong people were from the start, in their opinion of Floor. She won a prize that year, for building bridges between the genres - because of this show.

Don't feel bad, the majority of the Netherlands didn't know who Floor was. Even on the show, only one of the singers knew her. I'm Dutch myself, but it's still mindboggling to think that in such a tiny country, most people would overlook a 6,1" valkyrie godess with a golden voice.

Marco actually won the European version of "The Masked Singer!" If you want to hear pure acoustic versions of some Nightwish songs...there are some out there with her and Troy, at Planet Rock. "Nemo" and " How's The Heart" are the ones I know of.

If you subscribe to Floor Jansen, then you have sorted there nicely in playlists all solo performances of her. All absolutely fantastic. And she has just started releasing a song from her solo concert every week. Thanks to their fans, the recording of the concert could be financed. She also sang together with Henk Port, the older gentleman on the sofa. "Phantom of the Opera" and "Jekyl and Hyde". Henk Port is the original dutch phantom. You should take a look. You will never forget. And let the videos play out. What is this? Honor to whom honor is due. And the applause is part of it. Otherwise, I agree with everything you said. Especially with the shit that is sold to us as music on the radio. We don't even hear something like this on the radio in Europe. Just this pop crap and some second class casting winners from some shitty talent shows. Floor was even unknown in her own country until before this show and she has been in business for over 20 years. Incredible. We in Europe hear nothing else on the radio than the American uniform porridge and, of course, something from our own country. But 90% is only served to us pop.

The young blonde in the red dress, Emma Heesters is who she is singing for. Emma covered the song, and does a decent version. Floor decided to sort of make it a warning. For Floor's night on the couch, Emma covers Floor's After Forever song Strong. Do that one. Bring Kleenex. Everything from this season is worth a listen, but especially Floor's covers, Floor's night and the duets. Floor's cover of Ruben's About Love, I don't Know A Thing (Floor does Country, made metalheads like it, and cry!)

EVERY performance she did on this show was so good. You should check them all. Also another bonus one from this year's show as a guest singing a eurovision cover of Euphoria which was amazing. She had to sing it from her studio at home in Sweden though as she was recuperating from emergency gall bladder surgery so could not travel Nightwish guitarist Emppu calls her Stonehenge now as she had a lot of gall stones and it abruptly stopped them rehearsing for their tour when she had to be rushed to hospital. There are full episodes with English subs so you can get a feel for the show if you want as well. It's a good watch. :)
