BEARHAWK ~ I failed the Airworthiness Inspection. (Part 5 AW Certification and Phase 1 Flight Test)

BEARHAWK - The physical airworthiness inspection went very well. However, I did not receive the Airworthiness Certificate due to a technical issue. Paperwork... to be specific. On one of the forms I indicated "Bearhawk Model B", but, on another form I indicated "Bearhawk B Model". Consistency is very important to the FAA! Having resolved the paperwork issues, I will have the AW certification in a matter of days.
This video series covers my progress building (and eventually flying) the Bearhawk 4 Place. See my "About This Channel" here: • BEARHAWK ~ About this ...
This aircraft is powered by the Lycoming Thunderbolt YIO-540-EXP. www.lycoming.com/engines/thun...

BEARHAWK LIFE DISCLAIMER:
I am a 900+ hour pilot with various ratings including instrument, commercial, multi-engine instrument, CFI, CFII. Those ratings were obtained YEARS ago and do not suggest that I am an expert today. The purpose of these videos is to 1) share my experience building an experimental amateur built aircraft, 2) promote the most underrated, under-promoted Bearhawk back country utility taildragger aircraft in the world. Recording the building and flying help me with self analysis for my own personal improvement. Nothing in these videos should be taken as absolute fact and are not intended to replace professional guidance from a A&P, IA or a CFI... Feedback is invited; however please keep it positive.

Awesome video and to reiterate, your attention to detail and to safety is exactly where it should be. No hurry, thus avoiding unseen gremlins down the road and no hurry to go to heaven! You very much encourage myself and the community to do things right and live and extend the life of the aircraft... Congrats!

I was sure it could not have been because of your build work when I first read the KZbin video caption headline ... LOL, you got me. Congratulations ! Yes the lockwire was a definite change, the other stuff, six of one half a dozen of the other, as long as you have an absolute minimum of 1/4" clearance for the worse limiting position case. Your work has been tops and you continue to demonstrate your commitment to safety by carefully working your way up to your first flight without putting pressure upon yourself to meet a specified schedule. Excellent strategy (two thumbs up). Well done all around.

@@TheBaldPilot i imported a 40 yr old Jodel into Canada from the US. The CofR said Jodel F11 but the data plate said Jodel F-11. So Transport Canada said no good, doesn’t match. But the seller had already cancelled the FAA reg. So we were stuck in no-man’s land. Thankfully the FAA fixed the error and sent a new cancelled C of R. They did it within 1 business day. They faxed it to TC where it sat for 6 weeks on someone’s desk while we waited to see if we would have an airplane or an expensive bonfire. Typical. It ended well. The moral of the story is that those little details can shaft you.

@@sblack48 Gotta love bureaucracies! I spent 3 years building this airplane thinking everyday to be mindful of my work because the FAA would be inspecting everything. On the day of inspection, they were clueless of how it was built. Spent the majority of the time looking at the paperwork. 🙄

The knot in your stomach from anticipation gets bigger and bigger the more they look until boom, the bad news or elation, the good news. Either way an adrenalin crash. I remember when the government agencies would fail you for the wrong ink color on a signature, so not so bad even if nitpicky. It should feel real good to have them look your work over with a fine tooth come and come away with only a few little items to correct, Good Job!

Being in the industrial electrical construction industry i deal with government inspectors all the time ... I have noticed many get nervous and panties in a knot when these average civil servants red tag a deficiency or two .. doesn't phase me a bit .. I need to see the code rule that applies and simply comply .. its just part of the job , you just keep going and do it, fix it , get it reinspected and on to the next job .. Hardly a blip in the radar .
