What does the term " Long " refer to?

Great question! Cuu Long, Thang Long and Ha Long are three famous areas in Vietnam and their names are all related to dragons (it is the Year of the Dragon) Ha Long: inspired by Ha Long Bay - comprises many small islands that look like dragons. Hạ means “landing” Cuu Long River - means "nine dragons" as the river is long and curves nine times in the shape of Vietnamese dragons. Cuu means “number 9” (in the west it's known as the as Mekong Delta River) Thang Long: the old name of the Vietnam capital Hanoi - Thang means "flying up".
