+0M9H4X It's the convenience factor. I think it's assumed that if you are inconvenienced enough to have to use one of these, then you won't mind how loud it is. I tell you what, this cooler would only be for my desk at home or in the office. I wouldn't take it on-the-go just due to the fact it's one more thing to carry and can make it awkward to handle the laptop. Therefore, if I am at home, I don't care how loud the cooler is.

... wat This is the same concept as the "Intercooler" add-on coolers that everyone used to use for Xbox 360s and PS3s, which most argued would actually make the problem WORSE given that it's pulling air faster than the internal fan is pushing out, causing it to not behave properly.

Thanks LTT. I bought this and it really has an effect on my non gaming mid range Laptop especially when rendering video files and running intensive applications. It doesn't make a huge difference in auto speed control mode but I usually use it at it's max speed. I could get upto an almost 10°C decrease in CPU temperature. +CRYPT from CATACOMBZ The problem with the pad style laptop coolers is that they can only push in so much air. The internal fans will block a lot of air, and the only reason the fans on pad coolers are so big, or spin so fast, is because not every laptop has the intake in the same spot.

+aljowen I've had this product for almost a year now. Though not used very much, on max settings, it's very loud and probably not be pleasurable to use in a public space, or without headphones. And also probably would be good if using any voice apps. Medium settings is a little more bearable, but could still be disruptive to a quiet environment.

I've had it since January, the default speed isn't very loud and when in voice chat services most people don't notice it at all. The max setting is of course very loud, they probably missed that part since it's pretty customizable with how fast or slow. Btw I'm using the Dell Inspirion 7559 i7 gtx 960M for reference. I always leave it on a fairly low setting for the sake of not getting sweaty hands.

Seems like it works best when making up for underpowered or overworked cooling solutions rather than on a cooling system that is already sufficient. Makes sense, since it's basically like putting a fan directly on top of another one already in your system: you can keep adding fans in the line but eventually you'll get diminishing returns.

Im glad u did a review on the cooler because i was thinking of ordering it a couple weeks ago on amazon and wasn't sure if it would work. I have a older laptop with a 920xm and a m7820 firepro i like to tinker with overclocking and it runs hot at stock speeds. But its vents are in the back might just order two just to see there not very expensive but there's plenty of different brands that look very similar. Its still the only extreme edition i7 I've owned i think it was about a 3500 pc when new its a dell m6500 my aunt got a bunch free about 5 years ago where she works. It weighs a ton but has 16gb ram 2 ssd's and the 920xm just wish i could upgrade the fire pro m7820 but the only other option was a nvidia gpu that was slower.

i was thinking the same except the vacuum cleaner should be an handheld vacuum duster, tape it to the the side of the laptop because of the bending tube that comes wih the handheld device, makes it easier to tape it .

This little thing saved my Asus N56V. It would shutdown from overheating 2 years ago. Bought this small air extractor back then and it's still going strong. Still can play most games on medium graphics easily, but fair warning, this thing gets loud when it goes into max power (above 50ºC bezel temps) - not a high-pitched noise, just full-on airplane turbo.

i have used some similar products and my temp results were identical with or without the extra fan. the reason is the build in fan and how the temperature curve of the maker works. if you can see the internal fan you can observe that the fan is slowing down cause of the outside fan doing all the work

Interesting, but I would have liked to see this compared with a more standard "fan platform" laptop cooler to see how it compares. Though this does have the advantage of portability in any case.

Alienware 17 here, I run 2 of these on the rear vents - kept computer Luke warm to touch - in house with no a/c during the heat of the day. If you have a larger laptop, with more than one exhaust port - run 2, you won't regret it. Looks like my Alienware has massive dual exhaust!

Looks like something I could possibly use for my Surface Pro 4 since the tablet heats up recently when editing videos but the sealing mechanism won't fly on it since it'll cover the buttons, as well as the fact that one surface it'll have to pinch is glass.

+SweBass BTW, You failed to realize they specifically tested this on laptops that were not even 2cm thick. None of the bulky laptops have temps that even go over 70 while gaming. My GT72 typically hovers around in the 60s. And I'd rather not be carrying a desktop with a 1KW Battery to use it on a bus, airplane, or anywhere that isn't my home. Literally the only option for me at the time was (theres that MSI GS60 Ghost and Razer Ultrabook now) to get a laptop only if I wanted performance. Getting a desktop too would mean splitting my budget and not being able to get good parts for a desktop. I don't even have a desk, I'd have to keep it on my bed or something. Everyone has different needs mate.

the evga laptop has both side and back vents/heatsinks which is why the extra cooling didn't do much as it would conflict with the airflow of the back vents.
