Parts of this song have been sampled 100s of times in rap songs over the last 40 years

362 times according to the Who Sampled website, but also sampled from 5 other songs (I don't hear the AC/DC sample, I think they got that wrong). But also fully covered by Redman, that is a big stamp of approval right there!

At the end ("whoa-ohh... whoa--ohh...") BBoys are calling back to traditional hip-hop tropes. i.e., "Ev'rybody raise your hands in the air. Wave 'em like you just don't care..." Ad Rock’s, "Mmmmmm-drrropp!" is legendary tho'

This is the first rap song I ever heard. I think I was in maybe sixth grade when this came out. A kid had the cassette tape and played it for me and my mind was blown.

I was 15 when this dropped - it blew up so fast and brought a lot of new people to Hip Hop who were previously only listening to Rock - almost everybody in my town was playing this album at their parties for a few years.

They referenced Jimmy Paige from Led Zepplin, who was in a relationship or 2 with some underaged females. the next song, "She's Crafty" the guitar riff is from Led Zepplin's "The Ocean"...so even though the Beasties get their stuff jacked, they jacked the classics through out this album, hahahha...and I love it!

Licensed To Ill is one of the greatest albums by any artist of all time according to the mainstream media. Having said that, ALOT of actual fans of the Beasties and music in general, regard Paul's Boutique as their crowning achievement or Magnum Opus. They've never made bad music some stuff is better than other stuff but it's all classic and essential to the history of Hip Hop.

Wax = vinyl record, this is why we wanted you to hear this shizzle. The Beasties are legendary. Life was different before social media and cameras in everyone's pocket. Letting it breathe. Party music. They are from Brooklyn in case you missed it. Hence "No Sleep til Brooklyn".

This album came out when I was in 7th grade. EVERYONE knew it. Especially Paul Revere and Brass Monkey. Now I’m a 51 yr old mom of a 12 year old daughter and I still know the entire album word for word. I even had a Beastie Boys poster in my room all through jr high and high school, then it went with me to college. RIP MCA 💜

the best live version of this song was on the chappelle show- check it at some point- don't forget since you're getting close to the end of this first one- but you're missing slow and low and posse in effect off this one - but when you get to that second album- car thief and high plains drifter are two you'll thank me for later- btw ad rick literally just said i'm from manhattan- they talk about nyc nonstop thru all their albums

Ad Rock (Adam Horowitz) was born and raised on Manhattan's lower east side along with Mike D (Michael Diamond). They each had a punk band back in the 70s (The new aboriginies, and the young and the useless) They merged with their friends Adam Yauch (MCA) and Kate Shellenbach to form the Beasties boys in 1981. Punk died and rap was JUST STARTING and was adopted into their act. MCA was born and raised across the bridge in Brooklyn heights. By 1984 Kate was out, and the band had switched from 50% rap to 95% rap, 5% rock. Beastie Boys, princes of rap (Run Dmc are the kings)1979-2012.

That is the Beasties doing that "Ohhhho ohhhhhh ohhhhhhh" at the end. it isn't sampled until other artists took it from them. RUN DMC did a similar track on one of their songs as well from 1985ish.

The New Style has been sampled by 360 songs but you might be thinking of Travis Scott "CAROUSEL"

The beats and record scratching and samples were mostly done by Rick Rubin, adrock, and mca. Remember, when they recorded this there were no computers in music recording. So they could program the drum machine, but then the scratching and record samples were live in the studio while tape was running.

Jimmy Page is the guitarist for Led Zeppelin and it was well known he had affairs with teenage groupies in the 70s, that lyric is about him and not them, also they were 17 nd 18 when they wrte this
