That was Broadcast Live from the MTV awards show . They literally announced the Beastie Boys then cut to the street Where Mic Master Mike was walking to the Building where the BB’s Basement studio was located for many many years in Brooklyn . They performed this Live in One Take for the MTV Music Awards . I watched this Live that night and over a hundred times since . I e been to several Beastie boys concerts in 80’s & 90’s . Their first album came out my Senior Year 🔥. The rest is History ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ please listen to their first two albums in their entirety . Licensed to I’ll and Paul’ s Boutique . Preferably in that order . Do Paul’s Boutique first please. 🙏 and Thanks⭐️

Same. I remember watching them play Sabotage on Letterman and loving it. Paul’s Boutique was so ahead of its time. You couldn’t financially make that album today with the amount of samples on it.

If you’re digging through Golden Era Hip Hop, I recommend you head out West next and react to “Drop” by Tha Pharcyde. The hook is just a scratched sample from a Beasties song and some humming. That whole Pharcyde album was produced by the one and only J Dilla when his abilities were just starting to peak.

Ghostbusters shout-out!!! The Zodiak sign thing really started in the 60's (that's 1960's!) as a hippie thing. It became so over-used that by the Disco period it became a lame pickup line (we women would quickly walk away from any guy who asked us our sign. Lol). I had NO IDEA it had made a comeback!! I think you should be the one quickly walking away from any woman who asks you your sign~ she CRAZY!!

They were at this for... Oh, four decades? They were pioneers and musicians from every genre pay homage (Does the cover to License To Ill look familiar to you? Em was paying homage with his entire album cover) and recognize BB as the punk band that transitioned to their own early form of hip hop that influenced the early scene. Especially east coast tri-state rap. To see how they changed, listen to their first hit, "Fight For Your Right To Party", which came out a few years before this , then skip ahead a decade and listen to "sabotage" (watch the music videos whenever a song has one; the videos are half of the experience and they're award winning at times) and then skip ahead a decade from that period and listen to "Intergalactic". They continued to make new music for two at least another decade after that era up until Adam died of cancer. They never stopped writing and touring and evolving until the band wasn't whole and they respectfully refused to continue without all three members. There was no replacing any individual and it wouldn't be the same. The Beastie Boy journey is wild. Definitely check out their album Paul's Boutique, their most experimental and criticality beloved album, too. It was reportediy Miles Davis' favorite album just before he passed away.

I read that the Ghostbuster backpack thing is what exterminators wear/use when working in apartment buildings like in NYC. It has to be compact so the guy can just walk into an apartment to spot spray for bugs. Don't know if that's correct or not. Shake Your Rump and Paul Revere are necessary stops along the Beastie Boy rabbit hole. Also check out Fight For Your Right, the song that started it all.
