Beat the Clock - Village girls take the lead in determining their future - Indonesia

In Indonesia, girls are developing the tools they need to advocate for change and take a stand against violence. Joining Youth Advisory Panels and Children’s Forums provides girls and young women with a platform to make their voices heard and develop their leadership skills. Together, we will Beat the Clock.
“The main problems in my village are bullying, children dropping out of school, and violence against girls,” says 15-year-old Icha from Nagekeo, a regency in East Nusa Tenggara province, Indonesia.
Icha heads up a leadership programme for children and young women in her village; she believes such programmes are a crucial way for children to have a voice in their communities. “It’s important to involve children and young women because they often experience the issues directly,” she explains. “They can speak to the village government and local communities about what they face when violence occurs.”
