Can we all take a moment to imagine being in the place of the boomeranger at 13:45 ? You shuffle your feet on the wet grass. You dislike the river spray that afflicts the terrain down here, but the water keeps the bugs off you. You shift your mask, a mark of your rank, carved and painted in the image of your god, whose statues you have seen deep below the warm jungle you inhabit. Suddenly, a thunderous boom splits the cavern, shattering your moment of peace. The very walls seem to be coming apart at the seams as you are struck by flying rocks. A great stone slams into your mask, and you collapse. Though your vision is hazy, you can just make out a blurry figure descending from a terrible hole in the ceiling. They look similar to one of your tribe, although they sport far more impressive body hair than even your greatest chieftain. Their left eye is obscured by some shining device, and they were a short totem atop their head. They bear a sinister blue box upon their back. You bow your head to swear fealty to this devil, in return for your life, but before you can speak they extend their arm towards you. In it they hold a blackened stick. Without warning, the instrument bucks wildly, throwing the demon back. You are hit with the force of a collapsing cavern. You fly through the air, slamming into a statue carved by your people. A new searing pain reveals itself in your torso, and you look down to see the gleaming metal stake that has pierced your chest. With a sickeningly slick sound, it slides back into place, and you fall into the rushing water. You give yourself over to Kali, but that isn’t enough. You can feel the prick of tiny teeth, and after a moment, the feeling intensifies tenfold. All over your body you can feel these fish tearing at your flesh. Your closed eyelids are ripped from your face, and the last thing you see through the bloody darkness is reminiscent of nightmares you had as a whelp - the gaping maw of Old Bitey, the devil fish who devours disobedient children.

If you have a shotgun then the Yama fight is easy. First kill Horse Head and Ox Face with the shotgun, and get their bombs. Then lure Yama’s minions down and get rid of them. Then, avoiding Yama’s skulls, climb up the chains and shoot at his hands and head. Repeat for second phase. Then get to the exit. Having lots of bombs, a jet pack and the amulet also helps.

+Jeremy Seal You have to go through a series of steps to get to hell: Get the Udjat Eye from the caves to find the black market in the jungle. The eye will blip when near the market. Technically you can find the black market without the eye but it's not consistent at all. He then buys the ankh from the black market (or steals it). He gets to the ice cave level that has the large statue head and kills himself. He respawns because of the ankh in the head where he gets the Hedjet (that golden hat thing). With the staff that Anubis in the temple drops and the Hedjet he can unlock the small golden door, which leads him to the city of gold. He goes to get the necronomicon (the brown book) and kills Anubis II. In the Olmec fight the necronomicon allows him to find and enter that door that he got Olmec to give him a ride down to. That door leads to Hell where he can go fight Yama.

I figured that out. I have made it through the worm but died in the Haunted Castle. I have had good runs with the shotgun and jetpack. Should I kill shopkeepers? Or try to get enough money on my own?

I made more progress in the game when I started practicing killing shopkeepers. It will likely get you killed a lot in the beginning but it will pay off. However, I don't usually do it until I find a keeper who has more good stuff than I can afford, or until I really want the shotgun. I'm not very good at Spelunky, only beaten Olmec, not Yama, so if someone better disagrees they are welcome to share their opinion.

Gås Productions Yeah. I do the method were I whip him than take one heart damage. When he knocks out I get the gun and shoot him. I can make it to Olmec but he keeps killing me. Actually I just run out of bombs.
